Powerful
It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
'George Lucas In Love' is a clever short film about how the Star Wars was conceived by Lucas while he was a film student. Of course this is not based on reality, it's more of a what if all the ideas were around him all the time. The film starts in George's room, where he's trying to create his script, that would be his ticket to graduation. But he's stuck on ideas of space farmers, who's crops of space corn or space wheat or space whatever are poor. So Lucas leaves to wander around the campus and he finds his muse, his inspiration. Shakespeare in Love would be the second thing parodied in the film.Film is well directed and the acting is good. What is interesting is how much Martin Hynes looks like young George Lucas. GLIL is a fun little film that gives a couple of giggles here and there. I'd recommend to watch it, if you catch it from somewhere.
GEORGE LUCAS IN LOVEA Joe Nussbaum parody1967. George Lucas (convincingly nerdy Martin Hynes) is having trouble finishing his script for his epic about space oats, "3XR-259.7". When he meets Marion (Lisa Jakub) he finds true love and realizes that inspiration is right in front of him.The spoof genre is a tough one. If it works, it can be hilarious, if it doesn't, it's often dreadful. Movies like Not Another Teen Movie are perfect examples of what a bad spoof is: lazy writing, lame attacks on famous movies, mind-numbingly stupid jokes, and an inconsistent plot.Thankfully, GEORGE LUCAS IN LOVE is everything a spoof should strive to be. The jokes are clever, subtle and spot-on. The characters are hilarious spoofs of famous "Star Wars" names, especially the backwards-talking professor (Patrick Kerr), George's stoned roommate (Jason Peck) and his visions, and the evil asthmatic Aaron (Jeff Wiens). The acting is top-notch, even if most of the cast members' characters are purely for comedic purpose. The best part of the movie is probably the shattering twist at the end.GEORGE LUCAS IN LOVE is a movie that does perfectly what it's supposed to do. It generates many chuckles but even though it's a very good production and a clever spoof, the laugh out loud-level is not as high as in another recent Star Wars spoof, the hilarious "A Lost Hope". Still, it is a good spoof film and easy to enjoy. 8 out of 10.
For all who wonder how George Lucas got his inspiration for the "Star Wars" movies, here is how it came about (maybe). George has writer's block and can't figure things out in time to graduate, but people come into his life to help out right when he needs it. This movie is hilarious with hidden references to the "Star Wars" movies and a few of Lucas' other works! Something that is fun to show a small group of people late at night, or just a die hard SW fan. And great for outright laughs and something to chew on before EPISODE III opens on May 19th!Search the web for this, it comes pretty cheap at $12-15 per copy, and is well worth the money spent!!!
This short film surpasses other shorts that spoof 'Star Wars.' An interesting mesh of Shakespeare in Love invades Lucas as he takes on film school. There is not much explanation as to why this movie short is so good with the reason being it would ruin the viewing experience. All I can say is if you like George Lucas or loathe him, you will enjoy this.
