everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Absolutely Fantastic
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
It's a horror/comedy. The horror can only be described as shock value and the humor is always lowbrow... makes a great combination! It's hard to describe this film, there're none like it. The entire film takes place in a hell like demon dystopia where the main character spends the movie exchanging dialog with a demon he summoned to retrieve his lost girlfriend. A story is told with the help of some demon magic to make things interesting. The methods for depicting the story are very creative! This is not for you if you're looking for a demon flick, it's a love story. It's also not for the faint of heart, the humor is very low brow and will be disturbing for some. If you're looking for a raunchy love story then you will love Lo.
It wasn't a bad movie, but I didn't see it as anything particularly special either. It breaks out from the typical horror genre's tropes, but fails to fully play with the concepts it starts to brush against. The characters are underdeveloped, relying on standard archetypes and shallow motivations. The movie's style wasn't all that creative either--a different, yet still typical take on a tired old genre. The dialog was witty though, and I enjoyed that. All in all, it's not a cut and dry horror flick, but that didn't stop it from being dry. It could have been very good if the a little more thought was put into the story and pacing. The movie's pace and intensity really didn't change throughout the entire movie, fixing that alone could have lifted it off the ground...
While browsing the "Horror" section of Netflix I stumbled upon this movie. It received a fairly high rating and seemed kind of like my thing. As the movie starts its blatantly obvious that this didn't belong in Horror. Its humor was some of the funniest things I have seen in an indie movie. What Lo lacked in special effects and things a more pricey movie has, made up for it with a well written script and a diverse story that kept me guessing. The bartender scene had me almost crying from laughter. While there are definitely other movies out there that are a lot more flashy and catchy. Lo has its own unique spark. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anybody who asks.
As a fan of Travis Betz' work, I came into this project ready to fall in love with it. I was surprised with how on the fence I ended up becoming.Lo's story line is intriguing, but the film itself has a few faults. Much of the acting (save for Brickett's Demon Lo) is miles over the top. Its almost painful to watch at points as Character Justin (played by Ward Roberts) gives facial expression that are probably not even natural for the stage. The musical numbers (it is a musical comedy, after all) are also difficult to swallow: they don't really push the plot along and they're jarring for the viewer. What does end up bringing this story together is the third act. The final half hour of the movie flows together beautifully, and makes up for the faults of the first hour. Its an easy watch, but one that you probably won't pick up a second time.
