This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

The biggest selling point for 'Ferrari ki Sawaari' was its pedigree as it called itself 'from the makers of Munna Bhai & 3 Idiots'. And what more, the ace director of these films, Rajkumar Hirani wrote the dialog for 'Ferrari ki Sawaari'. Obviously, the expectations were sky high but the film has been built on a rather weak script. The story revolves around a little boy Kayo Deboo (Ritwik Sahore) who is a budding cricketer nursing a dream to play for India. Just when he gets selected for a prestigious camp at the Lords Cricket Ground, his father, Rusy (Sharman Joshi), an honest RTO clerk cannot afford the 1.5 lakh fee. Rusy's father Behram (Boman Irani) a former cricketer himself is dismissive about his kin making a career in cricket. When Rusy's efforts to raise the money through a PF or bank loans fail, the only ray of hope is a wedding planner (Seeema Pahwa) who offers 1.5 lakh if he can fetch a Ferrari car for a local corporator's sons's wedding procession. But the only person in the city who owns such a car is Sachin Tendulkar and Rusy must steal it from him. Sharman Joshi perfectly fits the bill of playing a simple and hapless guy weighed down by fate. But he lacks the charisma to carry an entire movie on his shoulders. Boman Irani is top notch as usual. Little Ritwik Sahore complements the star cast. On yes, Vidya Balan makes her presence felt in an unnecessary item number. The film raises a number of issues such as the impracticality of someone with modest means dreaming of a career in sports, the difficulty in making ends meet and being able to provide for one's dreams all on a meager salary and the thought of truly talented folk being trampled due to politics and those with deep pockets. The overdose of drama that is focused on the child is likely to interest preteen audiences who would gladly drag their parents to watch the film. And then there are those who will give it a chance because Rajkumar Hirani's name is associated with it. But otherwise, there are so many plot holes that leave you dissatisfied. First, there was no specific reason for the lead characters being Parsi except about showing them to be living in a Parsi colony and one joke where a goon says he called out for 'Rustom' and twenty of them turned up. Also, was the setting really 2012? Barring the existence of mobile phones, the film seemed like a throwback to 1980s. And over the top characters like the corporator's son are simply irritating. The portrayal of his poverty is rather unrealistic. Granted that he is a widower and sole breadwinner caring for his old father and providing for his young boy all on meager government salary; but in an age where small time street vendors carry mobile phones, our hero doesn't seemed to have bought one. And why does he stash money in odd places instead of leaving it in his salary account? What was the director thinking? The honesty angle has also been overdone and inconsistent. Imagine anyone accidentally jumping an unsupervised traffic light and searching desperately for a cop to voluntarily pay fine! And within minutes, our epitome of honesty goes on and steals a fancy car and jolly well drives it around the city with his son. What ever happened to all that gyaan about setting an example to his son in the traffic signal incident? What more? Our hero leaves the stolen car on the street, nearly at Sachin's doorstep in broad daylight; Boman Irani's character brings the car to the cricket association headquarters where nobody seems to care where the car came from or why were they driving around like crazy amidst the fountains in the garden. To top it all, nobody gets pulled up by the law. All this in the name of cinematic liberty, wow!To sum up, 'Ferrari Ki Sawaari' is a film with its heart in the right place. Just that it goes overboard with some unrealistic drama. Given that the movie is centered on a kid and we are a cricket crazy nation, it may have takers despite it being average fare!

Its a sweet simple movie straight from the heart wit a lot of sincerity, having some beautiful moments that ensures a smile on your face. However the movie has enough hiccups that hampers its smooth flow ; too much unnecessary time is given to the scenes involving relatively unimportant characters which adds to the length of the film. Also FKS tries very hard which wasn't needed and the plot takes too many liberties in the end.Revealing those things will be a spoiler. The biggest strength of FKS lies in its lead characters' top notch performances.THe young kid looks confident in every scene and also he looks very similar to his on screen father, superb casting. Boman Irani as grumpy old man is superb .But its the under rated Sharman Joshi who is such a revelation in this film ,delivering his best yet and becoming the best reason to watch this film. watch out for the scene in which he pleads to a loan officer with a smile of hope of getting the loan ..outstanding expression. When Boman and Sharman are on screen they just raise the depth of those scenes.. Not a gr8 film but surely worth a watch .Such a nice clean film are very rare these days

Many small joys makes you happier than a bigger one. Not only you but several hearts around. Just look at the brighter side of the life. Such is Vidhu Vinod Chopra's latest offering Ferrari Ki Sawaari, directed by Rajesh Mapuskar. No grand ambition, no superstar. Many small characters with huge hearts makes you feel rich good, if you see at the brighter side ignoring the subduing tad melodrama.Starts smoothly with bright picturisation of a poor Parsi family home in a Parsi colony and you are introduced with the three lead characters: Rustam (Sharman Joshi), an RTO Officer, good doer and obedient citizen who follows traffic rules also when there's no police around. His son Kayo (Ritwik Sahore) is a budding cricketer aspiring to make it to the cricket coaching camp at the Lord's, London, given his poor financial backdrop of the family. The eldest of the family, Rustam's father, Deboo (Boman Irani) was one of the best cricketer of his time who discontinued cricketing after he was sabotaged by his rival Dharmadhikari (Paresh Rawal). The ride picks up many characters that comes on the way: Babbu didi (Seema Pahwa) who wishes to have Ferrari in her locality at the wedding of the corporator's son Pakya (Nilesh Divekar). Rustam accidentally steals the red posh Ferrari of Sachin Tendulkar which brings two more playful characters - the driver and the watchman (Deepak Shirke) leading them onto the quest of the missing Ferrari. This is how the entire plot is constructed meticulously revolving around the huge dreams of small people. But, no Indian road is complete with potholes that jerks your ride. You can be pulled back by the taming melodrama but majority of the Indian cinema goers have developed a taste for it. And this is where recent Vidhu Vinod Chopra movies (Lage Raho, 3 idiots) find its comfort zone. But you are never let down and you get your proper dosage of gulp in the throat and teary eyed moments. This ride reaches its maximum speed at many turns, mainly due to the performances of each cast: be it Boman Irani in his rugged look or a car mechanic for very small time of appearance. Also, it is most enjoyable when in a scene the media covers the news of a suicide of a young boy leaving the news of forged mass wedding and Sachin's ferrari.Family entertainment films are on a steep low in Indian cinema in recent times. And you hardly get such one. Ferrari Ki Sawaari gives you a reason to spare some time with your family. Who knows when you'll get such movies at the theatres in future.
