Crappy film
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
What can I say about this film? - Just go watch it. It's got it all: footage of major artists of the 20th century, their masterpieces, and a master narrator, Orson Welles. Of course, the film has to be seen in the context of the time when it was made (1975), but by this it has become itself a piece of art history.
Since there's no info on IMDb, I thought I would add that this film features rare and unique footage of great modern artists in their studios creating and commenting on their work, with narration and commentary by Orson Welles. Features Chagall, Henry Moore, Dali, De Kooning, Matisse, Picasso, Giacometti, Duchamp and Pollack, and probably some others I'm forgetting. The film also visits great collections housed in The Louvre, The Guggenheim and The Museum of Modern Art to view works by Mondrian, Dubuffet, Kline, Magritte, Warhol and others.I really enjoyed this film and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys learning more about modern art history.
