The Thread is a groundbreaking documentary that exposes the undeniable impact amateur internet writers are having on journalism today. Following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, amateur internet sleuths took to Twitter and Reddit, intent on identifying the individuals responsible. The ensuing investigation led to an innocent young man being charged with the crime, thus changing the face of journalism forever. Directed by Greg Barker (Manhunt) and executive produced by Emmy Award-winning producer Jonathan Chinn (American High) and Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man on Wire).

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

This documentary shows the way in which we consume, and share, news in a generation where social media & 24 hour reporting from masses of different sources online flood us with fact and fiction in news online. It shows the relationship between mainstream media vs places like Buzzfeed & Reddit, and how that relationship and our relationship with those sources, can be both beneficial and damaging.We look at the way that both of the mainly shown (Buzzfeed and Reddit) alternative news sources can collate information from lots of different areas and mainstream news outlets to give a well rounded and more inclusive picture of what's happening, but it also shows the trouble with self moderating news sources, and how the attempt to help can spiral into something darker and more insidious, particularly when theories online are taken and run with by mainstream news media. It is, all told, an interesting look at the changing face of news consumption, and the way in which we as individuals can impact the news and help or hinder investigations.
I almost had to turn it off.It was so awful to see all these people vainly dancing around this tragedy partying while counting out how their reddit almost beat a thread about cats or how buzzfeed was suddenly and very unexpectedly regarded as a news site. and heaps of twitterers just masturbating to their fav counts instead of being in the slightest amount connected to this world that they are monitoring. So disturbing to have to endure this for this period of time. To do them justice i can only assume a massive underlying inferiority complex toward traditional media if they have to go off on their accidental involvement in this incident.People, i wish you all the best of luck in making actual connections very soon!
