Speciesism: The Movie

Modern farms are struggling to keep a secret. Most of the animals used for food in the United States are raised in giant, bizarre factories, hidden deep in remote areas of the countryside. Speciesism: The Movie director Mark Devries set out to investigate. The documentary takes viewers on a sometimes funny, sometimes frightening adventure, crawling through the bushes that hide these factories, flying in airplanes above their toxic manure lagoons, and coming face-to-face with their owners.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

I first viewed this movie at the Animal Rights conference in Los Angeles 2014. I bought two copies of this film; one for myself and the other for our local library. This movie, Speciesism, is a great introduction for adults skeptical to the topic of factory farming and farm animal abuse. It also is great for young adults as it is humorous with moments of deeply profound insights concerning the use of animals for human consumption and exploitation? Speciesism and Cowspirancy are my two favorite movies on this topic. It is important that this movie, Speciesism, is viewed by as many people as possible to create the change required for a healthy, compassionate planet. Please share this movie with others.

This film was extremely educational for both me (a vegetarian of 9 years) and my friend who accompanied me (not a vegetarian). The honesty and rawness of the film is convincing and reassuring. While it was a low-budget film and isn't of great quality in cinematic aspects, it is amazingly accurate and the information is composed well. Approaching the argument from an outside view was refreshing, as well as the intellectual underpinnings presented throughout the entire film. The interviews with professors, researchers, officials, and the general public were both the most informational parts of the documentary as well as the funniest parts of the film. I felt like this film did animal rights documentaries justice and provides a new take on approaching the issue.I would recommend to anyone; it was fantastic.

Humans tend to think of themselves as superior for the most part. We are not: our callousness for allowing our society for force itself to think of animals as our 'supply-and-demand' bucket is shown in all its disgusting glory in full-force on this documentary. Supplement this with other videos/blogs/articles/news/etc. detailing the atrocities we subject our counterpart equals (yes, animals - all of them) to.Animals are here with us to teach us compassion, love, and to live life from beginning to end with their families and how they choose. If you don't believe otherwise and still choose to blindly subject yourself to modern-day inexcusable cannibalism (unknowingly, unwillingly or otherwise), this documentary can help you out should you need any guidance for an open heart. This may not me much of a review more than it's a personal view of wanting anyone who needs some clarification to watch this for the sake of animal's lives - they are counting on your decision :)

I saw the premiere in Los Angeles, and was one of the first to stand for the well-deserved standing ovation. This is a film that makes a tremendous philosophical case for the equality of all species, in a fun and entertaining way. The movie is speckled with numerous humorous moments that make the serious content palatable, leaving you feeling enlightened and empowered to make positive choices for your health, the environment, an animals. Most interesting and not often mentioned is the fact that Mark Devries, the director, was NOT vegan when he started out making this film. He was just curious about the topic and approached it with reason and critical thinking. He transformed his diet over the course of the making of the film, but knowing that you're learning with him as he goes, scene by scene of the movie, makes the experience even more fun because you feel a kind of camaraderie. Make some tasty animal-free appetizers, invite your friends over, and watch it together - it's a great ride!
