The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
"Shades of Gray" gives us a fascinating look into the life of West Virginian, Gray Barker, his writing, his eccentricities and his passion, UFOs. This is an amazing story about the man who first reported about "The Mothman," "The Men in Black," "The Philadelphia Experiment" and many other UFO and close encounters as early as the 1950s. The documentary includes fascinating and enlightening interviews with Gray Barker's friends and family, book excerpts and movie clips. The film reveals that Gray Barker's reporting was not always fact and that he was encouraged and delighted in the public's reaction to his UFO stories. After many years the movie industry has discovered Barker's stories and capitalized on them. "Men in Black" and "Mothman" movies were taken directly from his stories, starred major Hollywood actors, and were box office successes. It's truly incredible that Barker wrote these stories as a reporter and not a science fiction writer! Great revealing documentary.
