This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.

OMG OMG .. ITS MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER FROM NOW ON... i watched it when it premiered and now i've been thinking of it. i want the book and i want to find a DVD of it. I MUST SEE IT AGAIN! I love the fact that "Even Stevens"'s Shia Lebeof Plays such a dramatic role when normally he plays a comical role. And i love things relating to subjects that have to do with the mind and how it works. My favorite part made me cry... the part where Eddie was flying the kite and it didn't work so he said it must be retarded. It was like he was alluding to himself. Oh yeah the book was good too even though i hadn't read it. Could someone out there please help me find a DVD of the movie. please, and thank you.

All I can say is that I am floored after seeing this movie. It was written about US!! My teenage daughter even said so. My son has high-functioning autism, and she is his only sibling. (They are not twins.) Tru's attitude toward Eddie is nearly identical to what my daughter feels toward her brother. I'd like to think I'm not as clueless as her mom is portrayed to be, as I have worked hard to help my son and allow my daughter to live as normal a life as possible under the circumstances, but the other similarities regarding the family are astonishing. It makes me cry every time I see it, although it's been a long time. I would love to get my hands on a copy!

Clara Bryant plays Trudy Walker, a self-absorbed teen with a twin brother Eddie, who is mentally handicapped, likely a form of autism, though it wasn't discussed. Eddie, played by Shia LaBeouf (Even Stevens), is a very kind and tender young person who lives life very simply. His heart is full of love. Trudy struggles to be understood as the stressed-out teen that she is. Eddie's father struggles with his work as a brain surgeon and with his outrageous temper problem. The mother struggles with maintaining a healthy and balanced household, which is not easy with Tru going through her drama-queen years. This is the most emotional movie dealing with the subject of the mentally handicapped that I've ever seen. As someone with a friend who has such disabilities, I can say that I never knew the half of what it really is like. Should you ever be so blessed as to make a friend with autism or similar handicap, you will see that this movie speaks a lot to those closest to the autistic in so many special ways. It also opens your heart to new levels of tenderness and compassion, and your life will never be the same again. I give this movie 10 out of 10 stars.

It was late at night when I was surfing channels and caught this movie. Beforehand, I had never much paid attention to Shia Labeouf, only having seen him on Even Stevens, a show I didn't even regularly watch....However, my opinion of him immediately changed after seeing this film. Shia carries the entire movie. I had never seen someone play an autistic so convincingly; and this coming from someone who has two autistic cousins of her own. It's heart-wrenching, what just enough humor and angst. It has a wonderful story, and is also very realistic. Oftentimes in the past, when I'd hang out with my autistic cousin/cousins, I'd find myself feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed to be around them. But, like Trudy Walker, I managed to get past these feelings, after seeing how much fun my cousins can be, despite their disabilities. This has got to be one of the most underrated movies of all time. Shia is a great actor, and I hope to see him in more serious roles like this one.
