Such a frustrating disappointment
Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
The story gives a very strong message. It starts simply as the story of a mechanic who just wants to complete his work and is ready to go against even his own people because he knows he's right. But soon it becomes a movie that tells us the importance of unity, and freedom that we get in this country. Somehow the movie, towards the end, makes one nostalgic and it is very emotional to see Gandhi's ashes being taken through a city's streets and everyone joins the convoy. It makes us think what we are doing wrong that is spreading hate or promoting bad deeds. It successfully makes us realise the efforts of a man to bring the people of this country together and form a free nation. Hats off to the director and all actors for pulling up a brilliant performance.
I chanced upon this movie last week ... on Star Gold Select! Had never heard of the title but with Paresh Rawal and Om Puri in the frame, it seemed like a good choice to watch with nothing better to do at the time. It was indeed.Road To Sangam is an interesting story, realistically shot, with beautiful cinematography and of course outstanding acting.I confess that I do not know any more about Gandhi than what one had to per force learn by rote in school history, all long since forgotten. This movie kindled my interest and that alone says a lot for the film! The last scenes of the truck proceeding slowly to the Sangam and the hordes of people, ordinary people, that came out to pay their respects, was really touching. Thanks to the film makers for making such a movie which surely deserves a much wider audience. Do watch on the net or when it comes on TV. The 8 is only because it could have been a bit shorter.
In one line I would say this movie is different and very simple. Paresh Rawal has done a brilliant job as expected from his caliber. Film Starts with a orthodox Muslim thoughts but ends in a positive way. Gandhism was as relevant 60 years as it is now this is the base story of this film. there are few loopholes and few fact failing about Allahabad but overall proper research work has been done, and Director Amit Rai and Writer wanted to add all of the facts and research in this film making this movie a documentary and slow, at least this movie should have been 30 minutes shorter and less dramatic at the end. Om Puri and Pawan Malhotra try too hard for their role but fails, Javed Sheikh and other supporting cast are impressive. Last word for Cinematography, I have never seen Allahabad so beautiful as in this movie, and I think this is the only movie completely shot in Allahabad. Credit goes to Director, My Vote 7 out of 10, 3 marks dedicated for Slowness, Dramatic ending and too much preaching. Finally, do watch this movie again for the climax seen where People are beaten by Policemen who are walking with Gandhi Jee's Car... A violence in Non-violence message film...Mistake in editing..
I've finished watching this film few minutes ago. The first thing I did was to come to this site (IMDb)and read the reviews. Seeing that only 7 reviews have been put up so far, I decided to register to this site not really to review but to pay tribute. I am not a critic and cannot comment on the technicalities of the film. I like what 'hits' me and this film has gone for the bullseye. This film sends out an extremely strong, thought-provoking message. I am in my twenties, I wear torn jeans and listen to western music but after watching this movie, somewhere inside I felt guilty. In one of the reviews here I read that only 5 people turned up to watch the film in a theatre which is just sad (and guys like us are to be blamed for it, no excuse). All I want to appeal to the director is (if he is reading the reviews here) to please not get bogged down and please keep gifting us with such thought provoking cinema as long as you can ( our country needs it !).
