Surprisingly incoherent and boring
One of my all time favorites.
A brilliant film that helped define a genre
It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
I seriously thought this was supposed to be satirical. It has all the qualities of a ridiculous idea taken to extremes in a "can you imagine if people actually believed this?" way. To my horror, I learned it was meant to be taken 100 percent seriously. The parents featured in this delusional garbage talk about their own autistic children like they're defective appliances. I genuinely hope for the sake of those poor children that they get an emergency visit from child protective services very soon. Insane non-science like this legitimately hinders our progress as a species. But who am I kidding? The people who buy this garbage take medical advice from an actress with zero medical education who posed naked in Playboy. They no longer even occupy the same solar system as facts and logic.
I have seen the film and I found it to be dangerous and harmful to children and families. What this film is doing is nothing but spreading misinformation about vaccaines and autism. I feel the people are trying to make the Autism Community look like we are vaccaine damaged individual. Many people with Autism including myself, feel that these people are a bunch of hypocrites.
Documentaries are notoriously bias, often have agendas and are best watched with a comparable documentary from the opposite side of the argument. Some documentaries though are just plain ludicrous in their subject matter and this is one of them.Promoting a message like this is legitimately dangerous and simply should not have been allowed. The message is as rational and as educated as advising people that prayer is a better choice for ailments than actual medical care. There are people out there who will believe this nonsense and their children will suffer and by suffer I mean very likely die! I often question why people cling to conspiracy theories. My belief is a combination of paranoia and a desperate need for life to be that little bit more exciting than it actually is.Vaccines have saved countless lives, eradicated ailments and do not have any connection at all to autism. The earth isn't 6000yrs old, the LGBT community have no "Gay agenda", chemtrails aren't a thing, the planet isn't flat, Area 51 contains no alien spacecraft and evolution is proved. Pull your collective heads out of your collective rears and don't put your children at risk over this ridiculous hysteria.
The creator of this movie, Andrew Wakefield, is not an against vaccination as such. On the contrary. He just claims that MMR vaccines on the market today are dangerous, and that there is a huge conspiracy going on.Basically, he targets the viewers emotions and fears for their children well being. And he does that well! It is devastating to see so many "must see" and "finally truth" comments to this movie. Why he does that? Well, apart from the obvious financial reasons (the revenue form the movie, sold books, lectures, conferences...), there are a few things he is not mentioning in the movie. He is an ex-doctor, a man behind the 1998 publication of a research that allegedly discovered a link between measles virus and autism, and 2001 scientific paper proposing a link between MMR vaccine and autism. It was proved many times after that, by a lot of laboratories around the world, that both links he claimed he discovered do not exist. It was also proved that Wakefield directly falsified the data in his "researches". For such deeds, he was barred from practicing medicine. But why would he do that? It was soon discovered by journalists that Wakefield's research was financed by a law firm who was preparing a lawsuit against MMR manufacturers. He personally received huge amounts of money from the same company. But furthermore, another journalist discovered that Wakefield applied for a patent for his own vaccine! What better way to make space for it on a market than to make people believe the existing ones are dangerous? In short, Wakefield did not want people to stop vaccinating their children. But he wanted them to stop trusting the existing MMR vaccine, for his own financial benefits. But all hell broke lose, and people massively stopped vaccinating their children in fear of autism. Fear and stupidity took over, and the results were quick to see. We had measles outbreak in Minnesota this year among the communities who refused to vaccinate their children. In Romania it was much worse - soon after the vaccination rate there dropped to record low 86%, the measles outbreak infected thousands and killed almost 20. Thanks to the dishonesty and greed of Andrew Wakefield, the children are again dying of diseases that were almost forgotten. Yes, that's how dangerous this kind of propaganda is.
