At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

You guessed it kids, it's a low budget American horror comedy that desperately wants to be The Evil Dead. It isn't, but nor is it terrible. Yes, the dialogue is clunky (and that's being kind), and yes the acting fluctuates between very bad and truly appalling, but if that's why you watch movies you probably won't be reading a review of a movie called Ancient Evil 2 anyway. These kind of movies succeed, not because they could be made, but because they WERE when perhaps it was too much to ask. It's the ambition that I love. Well, we've only got £400 left, and we still need to make our Egyptian Mummy beast. It's this 'we don't give a damn if it looks a bit shoddy' attitude that really adds charm. Ultimately then, a genuine Z-grade horror comedy, that you might find surprisingly enjoyable.

How many ways can you spell b-a-d? Just watch this movie. It was like watching a very bad high school play where they couldn't round anybody up to play the parts. Acting = Bad. Script = Bad. The whole problem, I believe, was people who watch the great cult classic "The Evil Dead" and think they can duplicate it on a shoestring budget. Unfortunately, they get a piece of drek like Ancient Evil 2. Sorry, I don't mean to knock anybody but this was a really bad piece of film work. Save your money folks. I am giving it the lowest possible rating to warn away others. I believe they even mention "The Book Of The Dead" which was a title that Sam Raimie and Bruce Campbell originally thought to name the Evil Dead. But they were talked out of it.

Why the distributors choose to rename this indy horror/comedy as a sequel to "Ancient Evil" (a VERY crappy movie) and possibly discourage those few that would actually take a chance on this one is beyond me. Thankfully this has jack-all to do with the first one. In a prologue set in ancient times, Anubis is beheaded (in a scene that had me chiming that "There can only be One") In the present day, five friends unleash the god of the dead when they begin dabbling in the occult. The movie comes off as a sub-standard horror version of "Clerks" with a splash of "the Craft". Not a good movie by any standards but I seldom got bored with it, that sound count for something at least. Even though I didn't really care for the soundtrack in the least.Eye Candy: Noel Francomano exposes one boob (the left one if you must know) My Grade: D+

*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*Ahh, "Ancient Evil 2". There were so many memories from the first flick. Actually, I don't remember a thing about it. I do remember that there was a mummy involved and that I hated it. Luckily for "Ancient Evil 2", I had forgotten about the first flick before I rented it. I saw a mummy creature with a jackal head on the video box cover and decided I needed to see this film. These split second decisions usually end up costing me. So an evil babe with pigtails decides to resurrect a monster. Her crew all head out into the woods so that they can get this party started. The monster appears and starts killing people. The end. Victims, monster, woods. B-movie all the way.Well, to spare you the pain, I must inform you that this movie is bad. Of course, there are all kinds of "bad". There's "good bad" or even "funny bad". This is "bad bad". What irritates me so much about this one? Haven't I seen countless cheap horror flicks? What's my problem? Well…The second half of the movie is filmed in almost complete darkness. The monster is going on a rampage but I can't make out half of the action. Heads are being ripped off but since I don't have the night vision of an owl it's impossible to know for sure. The acting was uniformly bad but I must give high (low) praise to the evil pigtail girl. Her overacting really made me cringe. Speaking of cringing, just listening to her lanky boyfriend talk about sex scared me more than the monster did. Overall, this one needs to be avoided. While it's certainly no worse than many other B-flicks, there must be better ways to spend your time.
