Three on a Meathook

Four girls go on a romping weekend at a lake, and have car problems on the way home. A nice local boy takes them back to his farm, where he lives with his father. Something ghastly happens, but the father helps his son as he has in the past. When the boy meets a girl and begins falling in love, the father worries about a repeat performance.

Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

Low budget drive-in horror Three On A Meathook opens in fine exploitative fashion with a naked young blonde frolicking with her man (instant gratuitous female nudity: always a winner). She hops out of bed, slips into a vest top and hot-pants and goes to meet three girlfriends for a weekend of boating and skinny dipping (more nudity). Experiencing car trouble while driving back from the lake, the four girls find themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere, but are rescued by passing motorist Billy (James Carroll Pickett), who invites them to stay the night at his pa's farm. None of them make it to the morning alive: one is stabbed while in the bath (even more nudity), two are blasted with a shotgun, and the last is beheaded with an axe. So far, so entertaining.Sadly, the film goes seriously downhill after this…Billy's father, shocked at his son's behaviour, sends the lad into town while he cleans up the mess. Cue an awful lot of padding to beef up the running time, Billy mooching through the streets, taking in a band (who play two songs in their entirety), and visiting a bar, where he meets lovely waitress Sherry (Sherry Steiner), who takes the lad home. Waking up the next morning in bed with Sherry, who is still very much alive, Billy decides to spend the day with the girl, which results in a whole lot more filler, as the couple get to know each other. Before Billy leaves, he invites Sherry to his home, who turns up at the farm a few days later with friend Becky (Madelyn Buzzard). Director William Girdler pads out the running time even further as Billy, Sherry and Becky enjoy the simple pleasures of the countryside. Boring, boring, boring.Thankfully, things pick up again for the finish, poor Becky getting a pick-axe in her chest, and Sherry confronted by the killer (who, in a not very clever twist, is exactly who you probably thought it was about an hour earlier). It's during this climax that we finally see the Three On A Meathook—for all of a couple of seconds.

Something ghastly happens, but the father helps his son as he has in the past. When the boy meets a girl and begins falling in love, the father worries about a repeat performance.Hot girl nudity from frame one.Really low budget deal. There is one scene on a dock and the camera was going up and down with the waves. Very 70s schlock. This was the director's second film. He only made a few others for he died in Manilla in a plane accident at age 30. Who knows what other trash he could have made had he lived? There's actually a minute or two in the film where the frame is all blacked out but you can hear the girls talking! The film has a bit of the flavor of I Spit on your Grave, which is a classic. It's reasonably well directed for the genre. But unsure why this is called three on a meat hook. There aren't really any meat-hooks. And the film sort of disintegrates before you get to the middle. To bad. Could have been good.

Four girls on their way home from skinny dipping have their car brake down. A guy offers to put them up in his dad's house for the night. And as you can probably figure out by the title things don't go to well. A few call this one of the classic slashers, is it? not by a long shot. Most call this one of the worst slashers ever. Is it? Again not by a long shot. Yea it's inept and certain scenes go on forever. But this is in no way the worst slasher ever. Hell it's not even the worst of 1972 (if you don't believe me go watch Brain of Blood or The Corpse Grinders) I'd take this over lame ass Hollywood 'horror' movies any day. Technically it shouldn't be called "Three on A meathook" though. My Grade: C+Eye Candy: 5 girls show various amounts of skin

SPOILERS AHEAD ... Skid row exploitation rip-off of Hitchcock's Psycho, Three on a Meathook is actually enjoyable on some sort of inexplicable level. With the assistance of alcohol and allowing your critical urges to remain dormant for eighty minutes, the film does have some redeeming qualities. Here's the story - Billy, a weird loner who lives with his father on an old, out-of-the-way farm is traumatized by past events that unravel throughout the film. The day he decides to go fishing he stumbles across a broken-down van full of scantily clad girls. Courteously, he offers them to stay on his farm for the evening. His old man is furious with him when they arrive back at the house and ominously reminds his son - `You know what happens to you when you get around women.'The following morning, the girls are all found dead. After ‘Papa' gives his son the ‘I told you so' lecture, he gives him some money and tells him to go to the city and ‘catch a movie,' and not to return until he's feeling 'better'. Cue about fourteen gratuitous minutes of a band who the director probably loved, as he allows them to perform two entire songs. Meanwhile, enjoying the band and drinnking more than he can handle, Billy befriends Shelly, the barmaid. He passes out, she takes happily him home. The following day it transpires that this couple were made for one and other and fall in love.By now, you're probably wondering where the Hell this wild movie is going. Billy goes home and tells ‘Pa' that Shelly and her friend will visit them the following weekend. Ignoring his father's pleads that Billy will kill them, the insecure boy allows the ladies to visit anyway. Pa gets drunk, Billy and Shelly hit the hay and the friend gets a pickax in her belly at the hands of Pa. The killer now revealed, the last ten minutes involve Shelly finding the film's title in a nearby barn, Pa being incarcerated and Billy being told that his father killed girls to feed his cannibalistic mother who was presumed dead for many years but was kept in a shed. This is an insane film, with some bizarre plotlines, annoying music andinept acting. It should be seen by exploitation fanatics for the simple fact that it one-of-a-kind. Like, Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs, this is only semi-inspired by the Ed Gein incidents. For more factual films of the true horrifying events, seek out – Deranged, 1972, or Ed Gein, 2000.`A Very Gory Movie!'The Psychotronic Encyclopedia of Film `Loosely Based on the Grisly Crimes of Ed Gein, this rarely seen gemactually lives up to the promise of its wonderfully exploitative title.'
