Just perfect...
good back-story, and good acting
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
This movie does not deserve a 4, it deserves a 1(awful). Trust me, more thought was put into making the cover for the movie, than was put into making the movie itself. If you look closely at the awards, you will see that they are fakes.1. Sad day for movie lovers everywhere when this movie was released to the public.2. Sad day for movie lovers everywhere when the director knew the film was bad before he even released it, so he put fake awards on the front of the video case.3. Sad day for movie lovers everywhere when the director knew the film was so bad that he paid a marketing team to come to IMDb and post fake reviews and rate the movie a 10 before it even came out.4. Sad day for movie lovers everywhere when you watch another movie and find out that more thought was put into the movie case than was put into the movie. This movie is not interesting, and it's very badly put together. Some movies are so bad that they become funny, but this movie is so bad that it's just bad. Nothing good about this movie.
After some IMDb silence, I finally have something to say:"Independent" movies are getting a bad wrap lately, and Windcroft is an exception to the mundane "Indie-darling" comedies that flood the marketplace. Unfortunately, If you were not at the one-night-only screening last week, you might have to wait for the DVD.Windcroft has ramped up suspense from the first scene and never stops. At the end, I was as out of breath as the panting protagonist - coincidence? I doubt it. This movie had all the pieces to its intricate puzzled meticulously arranged for me to absorb like an intelligent human being. Rather than wasting time on the plot, I'll describe why you should see this particular movie. First, the acting was superb. I have no idea who these talented young thespians are, but they knocked my socks off. (Sure, there were a few moments or characters that were a little flat, but those were fleeting, and the atmosphere more than made up for it.) The camera work was superb. Super wide overhead shots of sweeping landscapes mixed with extreme detailed closeups of rusting farm equipment with jagged edges and gleaming blades. The story was entirely unique (as much as one can really be in this day and age)and so carefully drawn that the twists and turns had me reeling. The music was chilling, eerie and at times sublime... All this leads to one thing: Direction. Anyone able to keep this house of cards together with such confidence is a true talent. And his demeanor (Meszaros humbly introduced the film at the screening) was friendly and sharp. As with any (apparently) self financed independent film, Windcroft has its flaws - but I've been so inundated with junk in the last few years that this was like a jolt of adrenaline, (yet paced for a slow burn). If you can, see it. And follow those involved.
I saw this at a film festival after reading a glowing review on Indie Express, and it did NOT disappoint! It was labeled as a low-budget indie, but it looks like a million dollar pic. The actors were unknowns, but that just made it better I think. The story was about this farm and the family history that darkens its antique wooden frame. A young couple arrives there after a death in tha family, and the guy tries to come to grips with his childhood on this beautifully creepy farm. A neighbor girl soon shows up ans throws a monkey wrench in the works. After that everything shatters around them in a climax of terror and pain.I was loving this movie from minute one. The score alone gave me shivers. I personally like a little more gore in my horror flicks, but my girl and her friends just loved the movie, so I guess it worked better without it. Actually, it wasn't really a horror flick, but more a suspenseful thriller.Definitely check it out.
Where did this film come from? I saw this at a festival here in Oklahoma over the weekend and it blew away the competition. It was like a cross between The Shining and Wuthering Heights, with strong characters and and a seemingly standard love story - but then it all goes crazy and turns into this scary thriller. It caught me completely off guard. The acting was amazing, even for a cast of unknowns. The two female roles were very strong, and the lead actor seems a bit blah at first but then as the movie progressed, he got more and more sinister and frightening, ending with a performance that rivals some of Hitchcock's better villains. (The fact that I never saw the actors before this film made it more believable, and I was easily swept into the story). The score (and the photography) was unbelievable too. It looked like a "Hollywood" movie instead of some crummy video. The rest of the movies at the fest were mediocre compared to the quality of WINDCROFT. It really is a MUST SEE for anyone who likes a truly independent film, and a great story.
