Wonderful character development!
Absolutely Brilliant!
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Oh my... there's nothing freakier seeing the man who played the adult Bill from the 1990's film IT taking on the role of a pervy computer engineer! Laura Black is a beautiful, self-confident graduate heading to Silicon Valley (although the scenery in the background looks more Eastern United States than Western), to be a successful computer engineer. She immediately befriends her co-workers and landlord, and meets an awkwardly nice guy, Rich, who she at first really likes. When Laura makes it clear that they're going to remain just friends, Rich quickly changes for the creepy, and next thing you know he's shooting up the corporate office buildings and murdering Laura's colleagues one by one! The soundtrack brought to mind movies and TV such as The Tower (1993), The Secret World of Alex Mack (1995-1998) and The Brave Little Toaster (1987). The whole film was like a homage to 90's corporate culture. One could even consider it a slasher film with Rich's body count and creepiness; the actor pulled off the role extremely well. Laura's character was played well, as was the landlord's. Stalking Laura had a few sad moments, such as the poor guy who gets shot and hides in the bathroom, only to start bleeding to death and get shot to death when Rich discovers his hiding place. I wouldn't recommend it to kids, but for adults it's highly entertaining. It even has its comedic moments.I can see myself viewing this film again, for a Lifetime TV movie it was surprisingly amazing and freaky.
"Stalking Laura" is the feel good romantic comedy of the year that's finally available on DVD. Richard Thomas stars as our shy, misunderstood hero Richard Farley who's determined to win the heart of a cold, career minded co-worker (Laura Black) portrayed with bitchy hilariousness by Brooke Shields. Determined to win her love despite the objections of an overzealous and litigious HR representative, clueless bosses and Laura's wacky best friend, who all try their best to prevent the unlikely interoffice romance, a cute office game of "Cowboys and Indians" shows just how far Richard will go to win Laura's cold heart.I can't think of a better way to spend a chilly Tuesday night, than to curl up on my sofa with a Togo's #23 sandwich (it's the best) and a quart sized diet cola (extra ice, I like to chew on the ice) and my copy of "Stalking Laura". If I could give this movie and 11 I would, but take my word for it, I CAN make you love Stalking Laura.
This film was done pretty well and the acting by Richard Thomas and Brooke Shields was good as well. Especially Richard Thomas who can play a good guy and in this case a psychopath very well. This film based on a true story really brings the reality of stalking to a horrific conclusion. It brings to light why California like other states finally had to recognize the inherent dangers of ignoring threats by sick people such as Farley. When Laura Black repeatedly complained about the abuse this loony tunes was throwing at her, their response was to say the least was light. Now with brave women like her and Teresa Saldana the country has zeroed in on nuts like Farley. I've heard other folks say that if she wasn't so mean to the guy in the first place that maybe he wouldn't have snapped. Sorry to say but when someone is willing to go that far and start out with the harassment that he did to her, they're far beyond getting a rejection and feeling bitter about it. For us normal people when a person doesn't want to go out with us we move on. That's life. But when dealing with a person like Farley, they've had that in them for a long time and in Laura Black's case she was the innocent who was targeted by that nut.***SPOILER ALERT*** One scene that cracked me up was when Richard Thomas was in the ladies room at that restaurant and he's talking to Brooke Shields. Then a woman walks in and his expression completely changes from a slit-eyed cold stare to a wide-eyed madman when he tells her "get out of here!!!!!".All in all a very good suspense film.
This movie was fun to watch because I get to see Brooke Shields. I didn't know it was her till later but I loved the movie even then. I don't think Brooke Shields' acting was bad. She just had to play the role of the victimized women. She did seem kind of cold though. In real life, she should have given the guy a chance. Go out just one date. But then, Richard was extreme in his actions. He should just find another girl. So I don't think he really loved her. He was just obsessed. But don't analyze everything too much. Just watch it. :)
