Very disappointing...
The Worst Film Ever
Overrated
A lot of fun.
So this movie has an average rating of 6.2, which is quite disappointing for a film like this. It falls along the lines of Rang De Basanti. It is not a masala flick where you have drama, love, sex, music, thrills, laughs, tragedy, etc. This movie doesn't have much entertainment value, it is more about real life and how people behave (just like Rang De Basanti). Now about the movie. It is directed well and the story is simple. The pace was slow a couple times but it picked up during the climax. Although Abhishek and Sonam aren't great actors in my view, they have my respect for working in this film. You can read the plot to know about the general story.I would watch this movie again with friends and family. It is definitely a keeper and it's available on Blu-Ray!
Though the pace of the film is too slow. The first hour is a complete drag, it picks up slightly post interval but the last 20 – 30 mins is a let down. The film lacks sense! There is something called Kaala Bandar in the area, which Abhishek explains (to the people) was seen, yet invisible! How can anything be seen, yet be invisible? The film reminds you of Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades and Madhuri Dixit's Aaja Nachle at times. Have to mention Swades is one of my most favorite movies of all time. The songs of the movie is just lovely, yet another great work by AR Rahman. The film had both touch of fiction and reality which I really liked. Over all I really enjoyed this film, because it has a good message towards the audience.
Good intentions don't make a good film alwaysAfter the good RDB sadly Rakesh Omprakash Mehra goofs up and makes DELHi 6The problem is not the story but the way it's handledThere are too many characters in the film, and lots of metaphors and underlying messages which isn't bad but sadly it's too bothced up and fails to convinceAlso another problem is the film is mostly not involving, it has good scenes but a few of them can't save the filmAnother problem is the miscasting, Abhishek in no way looks like an America return or who has come for the first time to India because his looks are like a regular Indian and his American accent is fake Another problem is the way the film ends, the scene to heaven is bad as if just to put Bachchan SR in the film Even the film isn't shot in Delhi, actually due to security reasons most shooting is done in Jaipur using Chroma key and others in studioDirection by ROM is decent in parts but overall disappointing Music is good, MASAKALI stands outAbhishek gives an understated performance sadly his accent and his miscasting works against him Sonam Kapoor shows bright spots and may go ahead Waheeda Rehman is pure class Rishi too is flawless(though they acted as mother- son in COOLIE(1983) and here play lovers) Amongst rest Amitabh's presence seems unwanted Atul Kulkarni is wasted, Vijay Raaz is good Pawan Malhotra, Om Puri are adequate
After two viewings I decided to give this movie a SHORT review on my opinions and thoughts. After the hugely successful movie 'Rang de basanti', Rakesh Mehra returns after 3 years to give a account of the life of people of Dehli. The movie depicts his perceptions. As he stated also that within he has added his own experiences. Firstly I am not disappointed but rather surprised by the outcome. Unfortunately in my opinion he has not managed to live up to my expectations in comparison to his previous venture. This movie does not have the same standard of level as 'rang de' but is somewhat in a different league. The movie depicts a journey of Dehli through Abhishek's character who comes from New York with his grandma (wahdeea Rehman). There he encounters many diverse people and bonds with them. The characters ranging from Sonam Kappor to Om Puri and Vjay Raaz seem very realistic and one at time can relate to them. Unfortunately the movie does not rely on a solid base plot therefore the 2 hours and 30 mins can seem quiet long. It was pleasant to see that there was a limited use of a background score in movie. This actually added an atmosphere to the interactions between the people. To some extent I was slightly disappointed with the way Abhishek's character was displayed on screen. To me he did not seem like an n.r.i, neither behave much like one. If his character was written more better, it would have been interesting to see how he would be adapting to the conditions of the surroundings. There was a lot of scope to incorporate many more plot devices but Mr Mehra for some reason did not feel to overlook them. Instead he presented to us many issues from arranged marriages to religious feuds.Performances wise Sonam Kapoor was a delight to watch. She portrayed her character with great ease. She has matured to a large extent since 'saawariya'. Vijay Raaz was humorous despite being fearful at the same time. However I give good credit to the scriptwriter for attempting to do something different.
