Reviews
Good concept, poorly executed.
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Bloody Scary Horror (1992) (Japan) DVD-R Toxic Filth Video: Japanese anthology dishes out four tales of terror with varying degrees of success. In Best Seller a young med-student becomes the target of a white masked death cult after witnessing them murder a writer. Is his life in jeopardy or is he going insane? Maybe it's both. Is it a haunted house or a haunted man responsible for the disappearance of several young women? In Haunted House we watch as a retired police officer come private detective finds out the hard way. In The Doll a love triangle between newlyweds and a creepy ass doll ends in tragedy when the curious wife stands in the way of a man and his precious family heirloom. Finally, in Blood Painting, a giggly ghost girl haunts a college student when he moves into the site of a bloody tragedy. Turns out the tiny specter wishes to join her mother in the afterlife, but first she must finish a painting...in the young man's blood. Fast paced stories don't leave much room for boredom (although boredom does break through a couple times) in its slight sixty minute runtime. It's not really bloody or scary but it is some dumb cheap fun. 5/10
