Simply Perfect
Memorable, crazy movie
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
"Michael Jackson's Halloween" is an animated short film from this year, very new, very fresh and as the title tells us this was shown on Halloween for the first time. It is a small screen production that runs a bit over 40 minutes, but still stays in short film territory by IMDb standards. There were quite a few writers and directors working on this one, especially given the runtime, but the outcome may confirm the theory of too many cooks spoiling the broth. The makers aren't too famous here, but the voice cast has some decent names, several very experienced and decorated small screen actors like Baranski, Parsons, Garrett, Cumming, Liu and Eads, only to mention a few. But they should be ashamed a bit to appear in here as this entire project looks to me like a cheap attempt to cash in with Michael Jackson's popularity still years after his death. Animation is tolerable, the story is very mediocre and forgettable. The best thing are the songs by MJ they were allowed to use, but honestly these do not resemble any kind of creativity from the writers or directors here. Overall, not an honorable project in my opinion. I would especially not recommend it to MJ's big fans as they are be the ones who will be most disappointed here. A definite thumbs-down from me. Don't watch.
We watched MJ's Halloween twice and we loved it! It's fun, it's lovely, it's a pleasure to watch and listen. As a teacher with 20 years of experience in teaching teenagers, I can say that it's not easy to get them interested. But my students enjoyed the cartoon from beginning to end. As Michael Jackson himself once said, "Kids...are a very demanding audience. You can't fool them". The characters are charming and appealing to kids. Even the evil ones are not that evil. The actors, who voiced the characters, did a great job. The cartoon has a positive and clear message. If you don't have a goal in life, don't follow the music in your heart, you become a mindless zombie, a walking dead and it's easy to manipulate you. In the dancing finale, MJ's music unites people of all races and ages. Don't underestimate his influence on children and teenagers. And it will always be this way because there will never be another Michael Jackson.
If this was a tribute to Michael Jackson, then it failed. Sure it had his music and it had him in it, but the writing was terrible and the integration of the music was forced. It didn't seem to have much of a moral to the story other than to dance. This is an entertaining movie for kids from about 4 to 6 possibly, any older and they might catch on that this show was pointless and sad. So much for honoring the King of Pop.
I don't think Michael Jackson would've approved this. Actually, I'm pretty sure MJ would've been offended by it.Cheap animation, an extremely generic story with shoe-in characters and a terrible use of Michael Jackson music and references end up presenting one of the worst animated TV specials of all time. Stay away from it.
