Simply A Masterpiece

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

This movie was excellent and I highly recommend it. There is a very good presentation of the main character's Christian faith helping her to survive. (Rare in this day to see Hollywood present an historically accurate Christian character as something other than a two dimensional caricature!) Whether you share her faith or not, you come away from this movie realizing how important faith and hope are to overcoming obstacles and surviving against the odds. It is important to suspend one's disbelief in the improbability of the events depicted and focus more on the message of the film. I suspect that the bad reviews are from folks that just "don't get it." This movie is one that is safe to watch with the family and one which you'll be discussing after it's over.

I like to attend to details and in here we have many unexplained details.The cold weather and the womens attire beg for an explanation.Her various abilities to make a fire when there was no sun light.The 3 dead people who were dressed better than she was for the cold.The lack of a food source. and sometimes water.It is doubtful she lived through this experience.The child spoke a foreign tongue and she a teacher failed to communicate with him.These type movies always fix the language problem up front.They trade names and get basic words down pat.The child was dressed for cold weather better than she was.If a spirit why was he dressed so well.I loved this movie but there are too many leaps of fate to tolerate.It took on the idea of a fairy tale.I am looking toward the idea that it could have been better in its basic engineering.The main actress was excellent and all the other failures were overwhelmed by her superb acting ability.

I really liked the pace and length of the movie. It wasn't too long - It didn't drag on and it wasn't so short that it left the main character underdeveloped. The ending was satisfying. Although I admit I found it odd at first that Amelia and the boy were able to sleep all night and wake up covered in snow, I think a lot of the negative reviewers have failed to see the religious/supernatural theme of the movie. It wasn't a documentary or some kind of trendy wilderness reality show. It was about faith and how a woman's spirituality helped her survive. Did you perhaps miss the ending (before the bible verse at the very end) when it was implied that the Indian boy had been an angelic being?

Comments by a 12 year old: 1. Why isn't she taking the dead man's hat to cover her head since it is snowing? 2 . She didn't have a jacket in her covered wagon? 3. Why wouldn't she just put everything into the big cloth and carry it instead of carrying a heavy box? 4. It never looked like a trail..what kind of trail would be in the middle of a forest? And did that big pot really fit into the stupid wooden box? And on and on. Sure it was a fantasy but a very annoying one. To be a worthwhile fantasy there needs to be some semblance of practicality. Perhaps a warning would have bee appropriate here...something like adults beware, only very young girls who like dreamlike movies will enjoy.
