To me, this movie is perfection.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
That's what it was called when I saw it sometime around 1982. It was playing in a rundown theater in Denton, TX with my then boyfriend. We were in college in Denton and were huge Chuck Norris fans. We'd seen every 1 of his movies up to that point and the theater was advertising this 1. It was so bad that it played like a comedy. The dubbing was so awful that the dog physically barked and then you heard it 5 seconds later. Aside from this 1, I still like his movies.
This movie could be for some people the best Kung Fu movie ever... This film has the best mafia/Kung Fu/sabotage plot ever written. In this film you'll get to see police corruption, a dog barking without opening his mouth, sabotage, Chuck Norris trying to rape a Chinese girl, 70s cop music, Don Wong riding a motorbike, cool cars, and a lot of black guys beaten up by Don Wong (maybe the movie was racist). The film starts with some big letters that say: "CHUCK NORRIS IN" and then "slaughter in San Francisco". And so the film goes but then you realize that big o' Chuck isn't the primary character, in fact he's just a mafia guy known as "the Boss" that appears like 2 times in 30 minutes, he wears funny sun glasses and talks high pitched because of the English accent dubbing, don't worry about that, all the cast of this film even the Chinese have English accent and talk high pitched. (I can't imagine why), but that makes the film funnier. Alright, now that we all know what kind of movie is this, we can get to the story... Not much to say here, is the typical 70's/80's action thing, we have a cop and we have his black cop friend who is murdered because he saw too much, after that the Chinese cop starts to investigate who killed his favorite black friend. We can see our hero walking on the street with a cool 70's funk, searching for answers, visiting his friend's grave, his friend's wife and child (by the way, Blackie's daughter was smiling and playing with some toys while his mother was crying). So, Don Wong (our hero) gets to the bottom of all and realizes that "the Boss" is the new San Francisco's drug lord and his men killed Blackie. So here we get to the typical final fight...a lot of extra guys who had no idea of what karate is, we got a lot of shots of Don Wong beating the hell out some really bad actors, the Boss eating an apple while he watches how Wong kicks their men's ass, Don Wong cutting a black guy's face with a shovel and the final Don Wong vs Chuck Norris fight. Great. Excellent movie. Recommended for nostalgia people, and low budget/lame plot Kung Fu fans. Richard Harrison style. Better.
After seeing this flick, the voices of everyone (African American, Caucasian, and Oriental) were dubbed. Even the sound effects were trashy, like the constant "police sirens" sound effect during the police precinct scenes, as well as the sounds of the cars firing up, which sounds like a 4-cylinder import, not to mention the bull-whip sound effects when someone is punched or karate-chopped.They should have had the Caucasian and African American voices heard normally, instead of some British accented voice-over. LOLs, when hearing an African American sounding like a Brit, as well as the dubbing of Chuck Norris' voice. The only thing worth hearing is the 70's score, common with the blaxploitation genre.
This movie is so bad I couldn't stop laughing. I've seen it like a dozen times because I find new screw ups every time! Why is there sirens in the police station? Why do the bad guys follow the cops while driving in front of them? How come punches, kicks, chains, 2X4's etc all make the same thump noise? The Best part: Chuck Norris's fake hairy chest. It looks like a vest. That can't be real. Plus why is Chuck dubbed? Does he even speak chinese?
