So much average
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
The director - Thomas Vincent - had already made a film with Clovis Cornillac in 2008 - LE NOUVEAU PROTOCOLE, that I commented, about nasty politics, a very good feature. Here again the two worked together and this is a rather good product. I don't know many things about mercenaries and politics in Congo in the 60's. So far, I don't know if everything here is absolutely true. But it sounds so. Africa and its rotten politicians, so barbarians, cruel, fierce who may give you the need to puke. If you are not racist, you may become, if you stick to the picture given of these men. But, of course, if you are smart enough...I speak only of the leaders.A nasty tale, here again. Cheat, treason, killings, coups, threats of all kinds, broken agreements. Yes, it stinks, but I guess it was made in that purpose. Clovis Cornillac is convincing in the leading character: the most known french mercenary of all time.
