This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Eric Segal's "Love Story" if I dare say is an immemorial classic, even a couple of decades down the line the chances are pretty slim for the essence to be diluted. The director deserves due credit to imbibe the essence of localise it to suit the taste. Of course, it goes without saying that Siddharth must have contributed heavily to the proceedings. Siddharth: As usual he gives pours his heart and soul into the character.Shamili: The cute li'il "Anjali" definitely has blossomed into a beautiful flower. Undoubtedly she has given her best to get into the skin of the girl-next-door and strikes chord with the audience at an instant. The screenplay keep the audience enthused with the narrative flow even though there would be a feeling that the sub-plots are more of a stocking filler ie. Suneel's insurance track, Ali's & Master's real- estate track, Pradeep Rawat's track and the happening on the ship. The melodrama towards the end was a bit Over-the-top and trimming was warranted. The songs have a fresh appeal and one of the strongest points of the movie. The director Anand Ranga has managed to hold reigns in all departments quite well. "Ankhiyon Ke Jharakon Se" & "Khwahish" are the two names that were directly inspired by Love Story. Of course as a reference one can add "Anand" and "Geetanjali"(or "Yaad Rakhegi Duniya") to the list. In the opening credit the director puts a disclaimer that like millions he is too inspired by "Love Story", so the Eric Segal fans don't need a deja vŭ to guess the proceedings. And for the audience for whom the name doesn't ring a bell, "Oyi" might be a good taster session.

Siddarth who has been playing lover boy roles movie after movie which is possibly because of the debacle of Aata(2007) in which he paid role with action side. To be honest he excels in his roles and his movies can be watched only for him. But Oy! is a story which is entirely based on a very weak storyline which is borrowed by Eric Segal's LoveStory as the director generously points out in a disclaimer at the start of the movie. Siddarth plays Uday a spoilt rich youngster who enjoys life to fullest and never worries about his responsibilities and future. So contrastingly is our female lead Sandhya(Shamili) who seems to be entirely opposite to hero. They meet each other in a pub n a new year party Our hero falls for her and in one year the characters change and the movie reaches climax :). What happens in this year is to be seen on screen, There has to be a strong screenplay and emotional quotient by director in these types of stories but the director falls short in both, Performances are good, The silly comedy track of Sunil,Ali and Bharath is not needed it is a torture more than a comedy though Sunil and Pradeep Rawat gives some lighter moments in second half. Music,Background score and Cinematography is top class and those are the only things good for in the movie. This is probably a movie for you if you are deeply in love and to all those singles(like me) out there just ignore it.

The story begins at a beach and ends and at the same place where it begins. A complete 2:30 hours entertainer. You can go with every member in your family. Story is about a rich boy "Uday" fell in love with a traditional girl "Sandhya". Impressed by her pristine heart he says that he is a casual middle class boy and gets into her house. Later the plot goes in a smooth way. Before the interval he proposes to her about his love in a romantic with 12 gifts and waits for her reply till the next day.Suddenly, something turns the story into a emotional barrier.Second half begins and trust me a lot of lot of fun. Well there is a romantic comedy in the first half.Performances by Sunil & Pradeep Ravath as Chathrapati and RajBhihari is absolutely entertaining. Climax is really heart touching.Shamili has given her best in her first movie (not considering her movies as a child artist).Sidharth is the same rich boy as he appeared in most of his movies.He gave his best as well.Anand Ranga had made his victory.PS: I think i added few spoiler lines revealing the story little bit, but this not the complete story. Sure you would love to watch it for a couple of times.8/10 Movie.. "Oye" Team has made a hit in the second half of the year 2009 only after Arundhathi and Kick at the start of the year.Recommended for any one who loved his Nuvvosthanante Nenodhantana & Bommarillu.

Siddharth is excellent as Uday. His costumes and goggles are very nice. He made sure that he wore goggles for 80% of his screen appearance (including songs). His dances in songs are energetic. Shamili is pretty good with acting, though her looks are strictly average. They should have managed the dark circles around eyes with good make-up. It may be a sheer coincidence for Shamili to again act as a patient in her debut film as a heroine.This film is inspired by Erich Segal's novel 'Love Story' which was made into a classic 'Love Story'. Johnny by Pawan Kalyan is also inspired by the same movie.The first half of the movie is dedicated for introducing the characteristics of the two main leads and the way they fall in love. The illness of heroine is revealed to hero much before the interval. The entire second half is dedicated to the boy fulfilling the wishes of the girl.Analysis: First half of the movie is decent. Second half is lengthy and is dragging at times. The climax is predictable and is not heart-touching. The plus points of the movie are Siddharth, music and cinematography. One should have guts to make such a film in Telugu where heroine dies at the end.
