Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
Charming and brutal
Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
Rosalie has a new phonograph. When she puts on a record and plays it, everyone in the room dances: her, the cook, the crippled old man, the furniture.... then on to the next room.At its heart, that's all this is, a stop-motion trick film of the sort that Melies had been doing for more than a decade. It would be as if someone today were confronted with a computer from the end of the 20th century. Where is the social media, the place to buy the music? The movies had been evolving at a furious pace in those and so far as this particular comedy was concerned, all that had changed was that this movie was three times as long, so the gag can be repeated twice. Not all of the movie comedies were stuck in this primitive state. There were lots of good comics about to take center stage with their pratfalls, and Max Linder was already becoming the first international comedy star with his well-drawn comedies, full stories. However, pieces like this would soon be rightfully overwhelmed by Mack Sennett's productions.
