This is a made for Italian TV movie and stars the ever reliable Luca Zingaretti of 'Inspector Montalbano' fame. Back in the early nineties the Italian authorities decided to take on the mafia. In order to do this they needed men of integrity to actually prosecute these thugs. Giovanni Falcone was one such man and he was cruelly assassinated - despite having round the clock protection. Paulo Borsellino was a dear friend and colleague of his and he - like many others - dusted themselves off and carried on where Falcone had left off. Fifty seven days late the Mafia struck again and murdered Borsellino. This film follows the reported facts very closely and also adds the dimension of his private and family life as well as providing insight into what it must have taken to carry on in the way he did. Zingaretti is brilliant playing the man devoted to both his family and to his duty with an almost prophetic knowledge of where it would all lead.Despite being a made for TV film, this has excellent production values and all of the actors are brilliant and it is a fitting tribute to a man who received international acclaim for his efforts to fight the scourge of the 'family'. In Italian with average sub titles - not everything is translated - and a run time of 99 minutes, this is a film for those interested in anything Italian and modern history.
