Sadly Over-hyped
Highly Overrated But Still Good
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Complete waste of four hours of time I'll never regrettably get back. I wish our local library would take it off the shelves. Their "poetic license" goes way beyond the boundaries of that definition. Complete travesty and pile of junk. For starters, Noah's sons AND THEIR WIVES entered the ark. Secondly, mankind remaining and the poor remaining animals were destroyed immediately by this epic point in history. Pirates?? Pirates such as depicted in this film didn't appear until circa 1700s or so.Most of this four hour travesty is spent adding bunk such as Lot gleefully breaking off his wife's salt-pillared finger to show off later in the film; a much too long pirate fight scene, and the mysterious Peddlar for whose presence in the film remains a complete unnecessary sporadic figure. The arguing, shrewish details cast upon Lot's wife, while completely ignoring or barely referencing the Rainbow's first appearance to mankind as a symbol of a covenant between God and Noah. The stupid, manic depictions of the survivors on the boat, which by the way, was SEALED by God until they landed. Ugh. Terrible, terrible movies. Bunk. How the great Jon Voight and Mary Steenburgen managed to get suckered into this adaptation of a beautiful Biblical story pummelled by the idiocy of modern screenwriters is beyond me.
I "won" this double DVD on X-Mas lottery, so I shouldn't complain. I thought. So why not bridge the hours 'til the Golden Globes at 2AM CET with some trashy 3-hour Halmi-Vision. Robert Halmi's Hallmark is always good for lots of cheap laughs, gasping, drinking games, and senseless NO sex, but violence. After watching the first half hour stunned, how actors with reputation like Jon Voight and Mary Steenburgen can appear in this piece of crap, I began to realize: they're having a party! The second part, being even more ridiculous, proved Hallmark provides a playground for big names who don't care about their reputation. I'll drink to that -- it helps watching the picture.
This movie was hilarious! It took way too many liberties and was funny! If people were thinking this was going to be a real movie about the Ark, they were very disappointed. I knew 10 minutes into the start that it was a drama comedy. The acting was pretty good for the most part. There were several catch phrases I think I might use. I never caught this movie from the beginning and we didn't have the technology we have today 14 years ago. When I saw it was coming on again, I taped it so I could watch it from the beginning. If you are looking for a light-hearted story, this is it. People shouldn't be so serious. Watch the movie and have a good laugh!
I was so excited to see the cast in this movie that I was completely surprised at how completely WRONG this movie was. I love John Voight but I have no idea what possessed him to be a part of this travesty. The Biblical accuracy was completely non-existent and I honestly could not stomach watching the movie with my children. My kids stood astonished because even THEY know that Lot was not even thought of when Noah was building the ark. I think that NBC should be ashamed of themselves for allowing producers to make a mockery of the Word and cause even more confusion in a world that barely knows the truth as it is... PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS MOVIE!!! I have considered burning my copy but I have every intentions on writing the producers and sending them the scripture references that they SHOULD HAVE read before making this movie!!!
