hyped garbage
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
What a lovely and meaningful movie. This movie emphasize why martial art is important, to defend but not to offense. And it also highlights the true meaning of love, not leaving thy lover when she needs us most and spending your last moments with the person you love and willing to give yourself for your loved one is the true meaning of love. And one of the most remarkable trait is that respect one other and accept defeat with equal favour. Perhaps this may easily be one of my favourite movies of all time. Donnie Yen portraits ancient Grandmaster YIP perfectly without any doubt he captures Mater Yip's Kindness and Generosity.
The movie had some of the greatest wing chun fight sequences I've ever seen, which were extremely well-choreographed and believable (except that most people could never receive the blows these characters take, and survive, let alone keep fighting). However, the dramatic sequences were heavy and frequent, slowing the pace of the movie to make it downright laborious (requiring fast forwarding for the sake of two teen aged boys who, like myself, could not appreciate the dramatic acting by Chinese actors who were rather poorly overdubbed in English). The movie is definitely worth renting, if you have an interest in martial arts films. It's just so well done. But be ready to fast forward ;-)
Donnie Yen is back as Ip Man. Just when one thinks that he cannot get any better,he does. Yen's performance in this is spectacular. The story to the movie was a good one, and i was a powerful way to end the trilogy. It seemed that Ip Man was much more reserved. For some reason trouble would always come to him.The fighting sequences were more entertaining than ever. The boat yard scene displayed an "angry" Ip Man. He was trying to protect his son from captivity and possibly being put into slavery. He single handed took down the dozens of people there. Then his fight against Frank, played by Mike Tyson, was epic. It was a battle of the fists- speed vs. strength.
The movie has multiple story lines and the best part is it s script. The sense in its message it very clear and simple. They have not tried to enforce any idea or archetypal melodrama. Music also supports the scenes and fights. Cinematography is very technical and artistic at the same time. Action sequences in its major percentage kept near to physical laws but there are scenes which have allowed room for chines traditional fight choreography so you not to loose yourself in kicks and punches only. In it s emotional essence movie can make you cry and might get you motivated. Movie evoked a very calming experience and i was not in a balanced state of mind. I hope you enjoy the movie.
