So much average
For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
This feature is similar to "You're in Love, Charlie Brown." It includes all the cliche bits we have seen a dozen times before. BTW I have never really warmed up to Woodstock which they insist on putting into every film.I loved the old cartoons, and indeed they attempted to use similar voices. In that regard they did fairly decent except for Charlie Brown and Lucy, the two main characters. The film starts out in winter and seems days later it is the middle of summer. The film avoids all holiday or religious themes as Chuck does a book report on "Leo's Toy Store" by Warren Peace.The theme is that Charlie Brown is a good man with good intentions under all of his "failures" and that is what is important. It was so much like what was already done, I was not overly entertained.
The good news is that this movie captures the best of Peanuts animated specials: adult neuroses via childlike dialogue, amusing visual gags, charming characters. The bad news is that it also captures the worst of those tv shows: minimal plot, random/long Snoopy interludes and self serious thematic speeches. The animation style was perfect (and beautiful), but the movie was still uneven.
I am a massive Charlie Brown fan and I went to go see this December 22nd 2015 in 3D and found it very cute. It is a movie that fans of the original comic strip will appreciate but even non fans will get appreciation out of it. I recommend this movie for anyone with kids.The films plot is about Charlie Brown trying to win the affection of The Little Red Haired Girl while Snoopy goes up against The Red Baron.what is good about the movie is the Animation to not only respect Charles Schulz's original drawings but to make their eyes and mouths 2D And heavy use of black lines.however the bad thing was I Felt that The Red Baron scenes were not needed that does not help Charlie Brown win The Girls affections
Being a big Peanuts fan as I am, I was excited to see this film. Happy to say that it was well worth the watch and more.First of all, it's kind of nice that an animated film from this era has a story related to life's simple things rather than have a big action-packed adventure for once. We see Charlie Brown deal with things from writing a book report to getting ready for a school dance, but his biggest challenge here is working up the courage to ask the red-haired girl out. And another thing we see here is a journey in Snoopy's imagination as The World War I Flying Ace fighting against The Red Baron to save the girl dog Fifi. Although most people see it as dumb filler, I think it's entertaining and serves as a great parallel to Charlie Brown's struggles.Next, the great characters that we all know and love haven't been tampered with one bit in this film. First of course, is the main character Charlie Brown, who is the honest and warmhearted boy that we all want to see achieve his goals. Following him in his quest are his sweet but slightly crazy sister Sally, his nice helpful and supporting friend Linus, the hilariously mean Lucy, the piano and Beethoven obsessed Schroeder, the tomboyish Peppermint Patty and her friend Marcie, the nice but quiet Franklin, and of course Charlie's funny and lovable dog Snoopy along with his bird friend Woodstock.Also, when the trailers were first out, people had concerns about the animation being done in CGI. While I admit I was a little bit among that crowd, at the same time, I was curious to see how it translated. It's nice to see that they did a fantastic job with it. They did not stray away from the classic style backgrounds, character animation and designs, while at the same time adding some slightly new dimensions and textures.Final Thoughts: The Peanuts Movie is a great animated film that proves the Peanuts can be relevant in our modern culture without resorting to the use of modern technology or pop-culture jokes. And it also proves that less is most indeed more. I recommend everybody watches this film at least once, especially long-time die-hard Peanuts fans. I also highly recommend this as a film for parents to pick up and watch with the children for a family movie night.10/10
