Truly Dreadful Film
Admirable film.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Blistering performances.
Saw this movie today only The only thing that remain mystery was what was happening with others characters. Were they also getting replicated?Actually to understand this movie make the main character as reference. He first get replicated, then he misunderstood hector 1 as another person. He then repeats the entire series which hector 3 did to hector 2(reference or once hector1 from where movie started). Hector 3 which later became hector 4 never came in seen of movie. Meanwhile hector 2(the main reference) after becoming hector 3 tries to stop now hector 2 to do same stuff which he did. But later he realised that he can't stop all this. The only thing he can do is let him and her wife flee away. This reveals the unknown hector4 fate. The infinite loop has started where first 3 hectors will have place in the story and all other are out of scene
You'll have to excuse the overall 'gushing' nature of this review. In short, I LOVE 'Time Crimes' (although I must admit that the title – once translated to English – does sound a little naff!). So, if you're not in the mood for a Spanish film with subtitles then you probably won't like the film or my take on it either! Not only does the (English) title not do the film's content justice, but it's one of those films where you really have to pay attention to every little detail because something that doesn't seem particularly noteworthy now may have greater significance later on. I would say what 'Time Crimes' is about, but I don't want to spoil anything, as you'll only get the one chance to watch it without knowing where it's going. Obviously, time travel plays a major factor and expect a crime or two thrown in there. But the film's strength lies with its 'realism' (if you can suspend your disbelief long enough to accept that we can leap about through time without the aid of a DeLorean). The 'hero' Hector (and you'll notice the quote marks I used to describe him thus) is a slightly overweight middle-aged man who spends his time with a pair of binoculars staring into bushes while his wife works at getting their new country home up and running – hardly your average Hollywood leading man! Then his quiet little life gets thrown into turmoil when he spots an attractive woman in the bushes, seemingly taking her clothes off for no good reason. This is a warning to us all not to investigate such a phenomenon. However, if he didn't, there wouldn't be such a great story to follow. Like I said, I won't spoil anything, but expect a secret facility, a secret machine and a lot of confusion involving hurtling through time and space. It's definitely not your average Hollywood flick. From the portly hero to the decisions he makes – everything flies in the face of what we might expect from the 'classic Hollywood narrative.' As much as I may love this film, I've only watched it the three times since its release in 2006. This is because it's a story that you really need to watch closely in case you miss something. There are plenty of films out there where you can pop out to make a cup of tea or idly play with your phone, then come back to the plot and find you haven't missed anything. This isn't one. Just expect one hell of a mind-bending experience with plenty of temporal twists and turns. Watch it quick as I'm constantly amazed that it hasn't been remade with someone like Matt Damon in the lead!
Having proved their worth in the horror genre (with recent gems such as REC and THE ORPHANAGE), the Spanish now show their hand at the science fiction genre as well, with pleasing results. TIMECRIMES is one of those low budget movies, made with a small cast on a small set, that it's best to go in knowing little about. The main thing is that this film's all about time travel, with all the mix ups, problems, and situations that arise when a couple of characters are given free access to a time machine that can transport people a few hours into the past. There are plenty of horrific undertones as this film begins; a family man's seemingly straightforward day turns into a nightmare when he stumbles across a beautiful girl in the woods, naked and apparently dead. Soon he's being chased by a masked psycho, and then the science fiction stuff comes, and the film gets really good. The rest plays out full of twists and turns while at the same time keeping the suspense bubbling along nicely. An unknown cast work wonders, with Karra Elejalde particularly efficient as the every day kind of guy losing his mind at the time travel hijinks, and Barbara Goenaga particularly lovely as the unwary cyclist caught up in the mess. Round this out with a good director and great script and you have the kind of B-movie that's far better than many similar A-list offerings.
An absolutely great film! With no special effects, no explosions and none of the other over-the-top elements of Hollywood movies, this simple movie shows how you can make a compelling, gripping film with little more than story. This film is so simple, in fact, that it seems to be shot in just a handful of simple locations (a house, a forest, a road, etc.) and with only 4 actors. Even the ending is very simple, but it is one of the best endings I have seen in a movie. But don't be mistaken; this is not a simple film because it was made by amateurs or indies who didn't have a large budget. The movie is only simple because the plot is simple. That said, the plot is good and the quality of the filmmaking is good too. It's a little hard to explain this movie without spoiling it, and simply describing it as "a man is chased by a man with a bandaged face" definitely does not do justice to what this movie is about. So I must recommend this by saying that if you like horror/thriller films that are a little less mindless than your typical modern horror film, and you're OK with subtitles (or speak Spanish), then I highly recommend you check out this film.As someone who loves dark movies and movies that require a little thought to them, I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of my favourite movies.
