This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
Oh boy, Punisher Warzone is a movie that I enjoy but have some major problems with. One thing that this movie got right was casting Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle/The Punisher, who did a tremendous job and was perfect for this role, even looking like The Punisher. Colin Salmon was also good as an FBI agent that was at odds with Frank Castle, Julie Benz looks great and performed well and I really liked Wayne Knight's portrayal of the Micro character. All of the scenes with Ray Stevenson are really intense and the film is packed with extreme, over the top gory violence and brutal action. However, the film is too much in a comic book style and much of this stuff is too silly to supplement the dark and gritty subject matter/source material. A lot of the dialouge is just flat out dumb and the villains of this film are super lame and cartoonish. Both of the actors that play Jigsaw and "Loony Bin Jim" stink it up big time. They are even worst than John Travolta in the Thomas Jane Punisher film and to say that speaks volumes on the level of terrible they are in this movie. Besides the occasional levity from the Micro character, I don't see much humor belonging in this film and there are too many goofy moments that don't serve the story and are not funny. Frank Castle/The Punisher is a tragic, damaged and dark figure and Ray Stevenson portrayed him perfectly. For some, this will play as great campy entertainment. Speaking for myself, this movie had a lot of potential for greatness if this was taken more seriously. Even so, Ray Stevenson's performance alone is worth the price of admission and has a lot of good action.
I did say it's bad movie and my opinion change it's a good movie but not the best. I like all the Punisher movies, 04 is mostly my favorite. They're some scene that are over the top but not to much. I don't care what critics think I'm a Punisher fan so I can choose what I like and don't like. In my opinion it's tied with 89 Punisher so they're both good movies and I like them both. My rank of Punisher movie. One is The Punisher (2004), Two is The Punisher (1989), and three is Punisher War Zone (2008)Score: 8.5/10
this is by far the best marvel film of all time, and i've seen plenty, and love most that i have seen in my lifetime. Punisher warzone doesn't fail to entertain, with an interesting plot and a action packed adventure you'll want to keep your eyes on the screen until the very end. great actors and awesome performance!
Even more than 6 years after it's release I really don't understand why people think this movie is bad. Maybe they expected something in the steps of the first movie (the Thomas Jane one, no the Dolph Lundgren one) but given that was an origin story, it's no strange that the sequel seems a bit more basic and generic to a lot of movie goers. But you gotta understand, this is a Punisher movie. To be exact a Punisher movie closer to the MAX line of comics, where the character often is shown as a merciless meat grinder who more often than not kills criminals even for the pettiest of crimes. So it's no surprise that the violence is extremely high and over the top, the character more serious and emotionless and the story more grounded and generic especially when compared with other Marvel comic adaptations like the Avengers or Spiderman. For good or bad this is the MAX version of the Punisher and to be honest after reading quite a few issues of this line of comics, I feel that the movie version of the character is up to par and maybe even better than the one shown in the books, thanks to a large part to Ray Stevenson's performance who is amazing as the Punisher. Is the movie flawless? Of course not, in the end of the day is a low budget action movie about a vigilante killing criminals in gruesome ways. Still, the action is decent and well directed, the acting for the most part is good (except maybe the character of Loony Bin Jim), there are a few decent lines and it never drags out or stalls.Must see for fans of the character (especially the MAX comics version) and for fans of classic action films like the ones we used to see in the 80s and 90s.
