I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
An Exercise In Nonsense
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
I have been on a kick of B and worse movies as of late and they have disappointed. This one was a good movie and well worth the watch. The movie keeps a good pace and is quite interesting with a pay it forward (dark) kind of feel. For those who do not like Cage's movies, I can't figure out why. Sure he isn't a great actor and doesn't really look the part for the lasies he gets, but his movies are entertaining.
Somewhat based on The Star Chamber, 1983, do not give up on Nicolas Cage and even that plodding plot, because after all, he has convinced me many, many times he is a very handsome man. THAT in itself is great acting...... Olivier comes to mind. Guy Pearce? Wasted in a throw-away role. Watch for Cage though, he always delivers.
This is one of the better movies that Cage has been in in recent memory but that's not exactly saying too much if we're looking at his track record. Still, it's an enjoyable thriller full of your standard twists and turns that we are accustomed to seeing from this genre. There's a few other "big" names in this in Pearce & Jones which is nice. Script is okay, directing is okay. This is the type of movie you'd probably flip on halfway through on USA on a lazy Sunday afternoon and watch the last 45 minutes. Nothing special but could be worse.
This movie surprised me, since many people claim that Cage only has "bad" films. This one is actually quite good. In fact, I was about to give it an 8, but due a few bad actors I couldn't.I think Cage acted good in this film. The story is easy to follow, so no brain cracking mysteries that make you think by the end of the film "what the hell happened." I really can't stand complex endings. In easy words, it's an enjoyable thriller about a guy who's wife gets raped. In the hospital, this strange guy in a suit does this proposal to kill the rapist for him. As he agrees with doubts, it soon turns out he needs to kill other people for him to repay this civic organization who "seek justice". Of course, he doesn't want to kill people and asks the same guy to get out of his life. If only it was that simple...
