This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

It's somewhat ironic that Clint Eastwood would become a household name by playing "the man with no name" before transitioning away from Westerns into contemporary movies, and then the movie that made him a superstar for the second time was a larger than life character than be identified first as a classic archetype and cinema icon and as a Eastwood role second.Everybody knows Dirty Harry. The attitude, the scowl, and the one-liners have been mimicked and parodied so many times, and the original movie, and it's sequels, have spawned countless new generations of similar hardcore heroes. Without Harry Callaghan there would be no John Matrix, no Cobra, no John McClane, no Martin Riggs, etc. Is the original film itself any good? Well, it's certainly controversial, even in the present day. Though much of the film's politics seem to be projected into the movie by its audience than actually part of film itself. In reality it's a very straight-forward, laid-back affair with minimalist dialogue, editing, and a subdued style. There's not much in the way of plot, and there's very little detective work or puzzle solving on Harry's part. He's just a blunt tool used for a dirty job, hence the name. For a movie that barely nudges past the 100-minute mark it does feel a lot long, with lingering shots, huge chunks of purely visual storytelling, and a few detours that feel like padding. The central story of a crazed sniper offing random civilians in San Francisco, inspired by the real life Zodiac murder case, isn't strong enough to last the already thin running time.It is a movie that is about style over substance, and for its day it was very slick and high key with gorgeous anamorphic Panavision photography. Does it hold up? Just about. It's not a movie that I watch for the entertainment value, but merely to study how certain classics were made.

So the film certainly starts off slow. It looks like it's going to be a completely self-explanatory, ostensibly obvious and pretty painful watch with as predictable a development as the ending would be. It turns out that: no, that's just that first half hour. Gradually the film takes a hold of the viewer and drags him into a more enticing development of the plot, one that engages the public right into the thick of the film's crux. It's like the film at its core has a heavy weight to bear and wishes to unload the burden onto the viewer, who finds himself morally and emotionally committed to the lead character's dilemma: going by the letter of the law and following standard procedure - or - choosing what 'feels right' regardless of the institutions. The film does a well enough job to not be as clichéd as you'd expect, to not be too linear with the plot which is praiseworthy since the film's entirety is really just one big premise (and 'Dirty Harry' so easily could've been a constant reiteration of the same scene over and over), and the protagonist despite being basically a comic book character still remains very relatable for his humanity which is also very much commendable. Strong ending with a very symbolic gesture which gives the whole all the more meaning and appeal, and you know a movie that ends well is infinitely more important than a movie that merely starts well (!).7.5/10.

Dirty Harry is one of the most iconic role of Clint Easthood and in film in general and a far as police movies go is one of the oldest and the best even though it is at the time of that review forty five years old! Here I won't spoil the movie, for you have to see it, because it rocks hard and the action is even harder rather I will write down the significance of Dirty Harry for the film industry and then a focus to the genres in which the impact was more apparent. And here we go!Firstly the movie is a bit like a western, logical for Clint before he became a hardcore cop he was one of the most bad ass cowboys in movie history. So from letting that type of character die out along with the westerns they adapt it into the modern (seventies) age. Keep in mind that this is the early seventies and back then the anti-war movement against the Vietnam War was at its peak, the crime rate was increasing at an alarming speed and the audience need for blood in general was at an all time low. In short a movie, which made a violent policeman a hero, should had been shoot from the sky. But why that didn't happened?Firstly Harry Kallachan (yes I know his surname) and his unorthodox and cynical attitude mirrored the view of many people back then for the government which seemed unable to do protect them from crime and domestic abuse, despite the strong outraged by Peace promoting and Feminist organizations at the time, for its raw character and as they said fascist behavior against the law and the rights of a person. Also in my point of view that backlash may help the film to make almost nine times its budget of 4 million dollars, for least be real when you here when you her so much hate for some piece of art ,then you are going to see it in order to determine yourself how good or bad it is. The same happen with Batman v Superman, X-men Apocalypse and all the Transfomer movies! Now to the two focus parts: 1. The crime fighting in movies. Before Dirty Harry the crime movies were, for the most part, tales of good versus evil with a little gun- fight in order to remind the audience that they aren't watching a kids film. After it and its brothers of the French Connection (the original of 1971) ,a Clockwork Orange and of course The Godfather opened the crime depiction to more Grey areas were the protagonist lacks some characteristics of the hero types, in short he becomes an antihero and the villain has values that makes you like him! 2.Vigilante justice. Now that is also the most important influence in my view because a man taking justice to its own hands what completely out of question up to that point, with the hippy movement and what we said before. But after its success many more people went to give their take to the way of vigilante. What we got was films like The Taxi Driver, Death Wish and if you go farther in time you get the Batman films series,2012 Dredd The Crow, the films of Kill Bill, V for Vendeta and the awesome television crime series of Daredevil ,Arrow and Jessica Jones. To put it simple no Dirty Harry, no vigilante movies and no superhero films and series for what are these people but judge, juries and executioners? This my take to the legacy of officer Callahan actions and impact to popular culture ,I hope that this analyses will make you watch it and then spread the word.

Dirty Harry is directed by Don Siegel, has a screenplay by Harry Julian Fink and R.M Fink and music by Lalo Schifrin. The film stars Clint Eastwood, Andrew J. Robinson, Reni Santoni, Harry Guardino and John Vernon.A thrilling and brutal film, featuring Clint Eastwood at his very best. Eastwood makes Callahan tough, dedicated, funny and extremely outspoken.Harry's actions may seem terrible to some people but there are some things in this world that can only be fought and destroyed by dishing out violence. Scorpio cannot be reasoned with and is extremely dangerous, discussing his issues and trying to understand his motives is pointless, he needs to be stopped and Harry is the one who can do it. He may be reviled by those he protects but if they were threatened and his methods could save them they would welcome Harry with open arms. He's a character who's needed but isn't all that likable. In San Francisco a psychotic killer calling himself Scorpio (Andrew J. Robinson)is killing random people. He demands money or he will continue killing, he even threatens the lives of children. The city Mayor is willing to pay him off but maverick Detective Harry Callahan(Clint Eastwood)intends to stop him by any means necessary. Harry seemingly hates everyone, he voices some pretty shocking views and conforms to no rules, Harry's colleagues have given him the nickname of Dirty Harry and Harry's new partner Chico(Reni Santoni)tries to work out why he is called that. When Scorpio kidnaps a teenage girl, Harry must race against time to try and save her.Eastwood is at his best here playing a real badass, he gets to deliver many iconic lines, including the unforgettable "Do I feel lucky" scene. I think this will be the film he's destined to be remembered for the most.A young Andrew J. Robinson is terrifying as the deranged killer, he's always been good at playing such characters and he's so intense and chilling in this. There's some interesting photography, a creepy score by Schifrin and unforgettable performances and characters. Dirty Harry was followed by several sequels, they're all pretty good but the first one is the best I think.
