Admirable film.

a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

Did somebody pay someone something to make this p.o.s.? Even going by the low standards to which I hold animated features this is utter garbage. It feels like somebody gave their 7 year old a budget to make a Batman animated feature. I never read Batman Year One, but I had heard of it, and therefore assumed that it was a decent graphic novel. The fact that several reviewers here have claimed this animated feature's faithfulness to the graphic novel is severely alarming, as I've read other Frank Miller yarns and never seen him produce any storyline from which could be derived crap like this by anyone other than an infant playing with his Batman Lego. Batman has appeared all of once 10 minutes in, Gordon just joined the force and is in a car with Essen (or whatever her name is) and immediately, for no apparent reason, coming with a random conclusion fully out of the blue, she's like "Well, Bruce Wayne's parents died and he's the only one who can afford to be Batman"....Well then, case closed! Worst secret identity ever?!....A bat flies through the glass of his study window even destroying the wooden frame and lands up the head of his dad's statue? WTF? Superbat?! That freakin' bat shoulda been the hero!...Gordon opens fire on the goons who have his baby in hand threatening to kill it, and they just drive away, fleeing instead of carrying through with their threat? Did mommy call them home for dinner time?... And Bruce Wayne can fall faster than everyone else due to his mastery of gravity, a heretofore undisclosed power of Batman's, hence jumping down from the bridge, PAST Gordon and the thug who are already falling, and catching Gordon's child whom those two had dropped? Do physics or any amount of believability matter to any of you people? If this is storytelling then I just wrote the best script ever! Who wants to make a movie out of my review?! It's gonna make as much sense as Batman Year One at least! The ONLY thing I liked about this p.o.s. was how they made Batman look like he was making rookie mistakes. I gave it 1 extra star for that. R.I.P.

The film has an interesting story as, like the TV series "Gotham", it tells about the beginning of Gordon's carrier in Gotham police department, and also about the beginning of the dark knight. It also shows many important characters, such as detective Flass, detective Essen, commissioner Loeb, Barbara Gordon (the wife, not the niece), Harvey Dent, Selina Kyle, Carmine Falcone, Vicki Vale. Though, animation is not very nice all the time: it has its great moments in pretty nice frames (such as the brilliant one showing the diner Hopper's), but many times it reminds computer-made animation from the 90's in its too geographical figures. The pace has worsened along the film, becoming faster and not developing situations as it did in the beginning. The implausibility of some situations also bores (fighting carrying a baby without killing him due to the sharp moves, or destroying a pole which resisted gunfire by simply kicking it, for example). I have not read the comic that they have adapted to make this film, and I think it has some problems, but I think it worth seeing.

Ben Mackenzie is the worst batman I've ever heard. The guy who plays Gordon is good. The film is too comic like....going from scene to scene in an uncinematic way. Selena Kyle shouldn't even be in this its only an hour and her scenes take up an entire 5 minutes and she plays no role in the story. This film is extremely boring. Im being generous giving it a three. I believe the only explanation for this poor voice performance is that Ben Mackenzie was on drugs or something. Listen to the first line in the film and he sounds like someone is forcing him to read the entire oxford dictionary and he's on letter J and getting too tired to care. How someone thought he was a good choice is beyond me. How could you have the guy do such a poor job at times and not even demand that he do it over?

'Batman: Year one' was an enjoyable Batman animation. It wasn't my favourite one I have seen but it was still good in its own way.For me, this one seemed more about Gordon rather than Batman (I probably should have read the description before watching it and I would have realised). The animation looked great, one of the better animations I have seen in that sense. There was only a few fight scenes (which were good) but I just wanted more. I wanted to see the Batmobile and stuff like that. Also Catwoman was kinda just there, what was she doing? I'll admit I haven't read any Batman comics for years and have only just started watching a few of the animated films, maybe that's why I didn't like this one so much. Overall it was still good but just not as good as other ones I have seen.6/10
