Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

This movie was terrible. I didn't even sit through the first hour of it. The plot is way too far fetched, the dialogue being cheesy is an understatement, and the ideas are just wild in a bad way. The only reason I gave it any stars was that it was kind of funny but that's all the good things I have to say about it.

I've just seen this on a Sunday night. I was in an undemanding mood, and in need of a laugh. What I got was a film which satisfied not just as a comedy but as a fully rounded movie about friendship. There is a heart at the centre of this strangely sweet story, and it's all thanks to the considerable talents of Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael-Key, both instantly likable as the hapless cousins in way over their head. I was surprised by the fresh twists the movie gives which marks it out from the usual fare which has been churned out lately. For starters, the decision to treat the gang members, for which our heroes join, as constructive plot devices for the film and not just background caricatures means we do ultimately care about their fate, especially as each party is able to learn something new about the other. For example, George Michael IS the real OG.There is also a certain emotional edge to the piece too - we see at one point a real personal issue affect one of our duo, and this for me made it more accessible for me to invest in the characters and also show these are people too, which the writers have put some care into. The relative low budget for Keanu is put to good measure as well, with the slow motion shoot-outs fitting in nicely alongside the quirky scenes early on of Peele getting to know the cute feline. Nothing felt too overblown or contrived to fit the context of the scene. The tight supporting cast deserve kudos too. The appearances of Anna Faris and Luiz Guzman do lend more of a B- movie star appeal, but I also loved Will Forte's role as a failure of a weed dealer, constantly being degraded in a series of daft set pieces. Oh yeah and the film star for which the title of the movie lends itself turns up to give some much needed advice to Key in a particular time of crisis.I really liked this movie, for its offbeat interplay between the immensely endearing pair, and their hilarious transition into inept streetwise crime lords. If you need cheering up this ticks all the boxes. It's not a classic by any means, but it doesn't have to be, and is all the better for not making itself out to be more than what it is.

Review: What a crazy film! This movie is really far fetched, but you can't help laughing at the crazy storyline, which goes from one mad situation to the next. Keegan-Michael Key plays, posh talking Charence, who is left home alone after his wife, Hannah (Nia Long), goes away with there young daughter. His cousin, Rell (Jordan Peele) recently broke up with his girlfriend, so he's depressed and alone until a little kitten turns up at his door. He decides to call the kitten Keanu, and they soon become inseparable. There next door neighbour, Hulka (Will Forte) gets in trouble with a drug kingpin, Cheddar (Method Man), and when he decides to pay him a visit, he goes to the wrong house and ends up taking Rell's beloved kitten. Once Rell works out what has happened to Keanu, he turns to Charence to help him get his kitten back. After convincing Cheddar that they are two ruthless gangsters, Cheddar tells Charence & Rell that he will give there kitten back, if his crew can roll with them for a while, so they agree to his terms and then they head out to cause some trouble. They are really the most unbelievable gangsters that I have ever seen. There clothes, mannerisms, music and terrible street talk, made them the worst candidates to be in there situation. The comedy was a bit silly at times, especially when it came to the George Michael scenes but I couldn't stop laughing throughout. Its obviously based on John Wick, when he went nuts after losing his dog, so I can understand why they called the kitten Keanu as he played the leading role. This is definitely one of those movies that you will watch when you want to get in a good mood, and the only way you are truly able to enjoy this slapstick comedy is if you don't take it seriously. Enjoyable!Round-Up: As I haven't watched the Key & Peele show before, I didn't know anything about these actors, or there tight chemistry on screen. Jordan Peele, who played Rell, wrote this movie alongside Alex Rubens, who also wrote for there hit show. Its the first big budget movie directed by Peter Atencio, so he must be happy that it made a profit at the box office. I liked the fact that he gave it a little twist toward the end, which I didn't see coming, and that he actually chose a convincing actor, Method Man, to play the gangster. On the down side, I can't see it being everyone's cup of tea, mainly because of how silly some of the scenes are but I personally think that it's a great start for this comedy duo, on the big screen.Budget: $15million Worldwide Gross: $20.7millionI recommend this movie to people who are into their action/comedies, starring Keegan- Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Tiffany Haddish, Method Man, Luis Guzman, Will Forte, Nia Long, Rob Huebel and Keanu Reeves. 6/10

Having never seen Key & Peele, I wasn't certain how this movie was going to play out but the appeal of the kitten in the previews made me risk renting it.This movie is so funny! It's definitely a satire on the gangsta films and it is hilarious. The premise is simple: Keanu is a kitten owned by a drug dealer who gets killed first thing. He's adopted by a goof-off and is subsequently kidnapped by the hit men who killed the original owner. Owner #2 with his cousin set out to find Keanu.Though our heroes are great, with perfect comedic timing, the kitten is the real star of the show. It's amazing how something so frail and fragile-looking (he probably doesn't weigh a pound) can carry a movie. The whole idea is ridiculous but the cast carried it off nicely with a happy ending for all.
