good back-story, and good acting
Expected more
Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
It is not only a funny movie, but it allows a great amount of joy for anyone who watches it.
When I first saw the trailer to this film I was admittedly looking forward to seeing it. After watching through it however, I noticed the abundance of plot holes, underdeveloped characters, and lazy script writing. The film overall felt like it may have been rushed towards completion due to the pacing issues present throughout, and how some of the CGI and digital compositing seemed to suffer more through the end of the film. The characters themselves do not show much progression, and basically stay the same the entire way through, making them seem very two dimensional. And in the end, they were trying to use the tired cinematic formula of how "friendship saves the day" but the characters barely spent much time together. And the times they did show them in the same room it was just a messy exchange of one-liners and odd exchanges. Not to mention I could not have cared less about their back stories (Temirkhan loosing his brother was directly his own fault and should not have been angry at August for his own stupidity, and Arsus feeling like he was loosing his humanity every time he turned into his bear form yet he continued to do so, without showing him ever loosing his so called consciousness). Overall, I did not hate the movie. I felt there was a lot of unexplained situations that could have easily been explained (how Kseniya lost her memory, or why the general betrayed his country). The action in the film was pretty entertaining and the way their powers worked seemed pretty interesting and mostly original. The film had a lot of potential but it was sad to see it presented how it was.
Well, I did not know what to expect when I first started watching the Guardians. I did not expect much - maybe that's why I was not disappointed. The movie had a budget o approx. $5,000,000. And I think they spent $ 4,999,990 on CGIs and pay for the actors and the crew, and suddenly realized that they had $10 left and no script. So they've hired a $10-writer to put something together very quickly. That's how this movie felt to me. Great visuals with very little sense. If you do not need a solid story and you like a lot of digitally generated visual effects bashing each other over the heads then you will enjoy this movie for sure...
The actions and visuals are great. Probably the only good things about this movie. The order of events are wrong. The characters are super dumb. Training arc near the end of the movie. Khan (Speedster) can cut the cable/pipe holding the transmitter tower easily yet didn't. Also, fighting Kuratov, Khan was depowered with no reason. Forced dumb backstories. Crappy dialog. Lack of BGM. So yea, the rating 4 is true. The visual effects team was truly wasted in this movie.
I'm being generous with the rating, I know, because in its bones this thing is terrible... but in a dementedly fun kind of way. I wont rehash the plot — it's all there. Instead, let's focus on the thing that provides the most laughs: the Chris Hemsworth lookalike who transforms into a bear. IN a film that has a much CG work as this, his human/bear appearances are about as lame as the first CG crack at the Hulk. But when (1) he gets KOs with a single punch from the Bad Guy and (2) finds himself on a wire that's taking him on a ride above Moscow, the expressions are pricelessly hysterical. Of course the villain probably lives at the end. And the final line, suggesting there will be more to this franchise, is delivered with the excitement of a Sears catalogue. But thing is, it's genuinely funny, perhaps for all the right reasons — an over the top Bad Guy, a bear with identity problems, a TV commentator who assures us that everyone who lost their home during the big dust up will be provided housing while their homes are rebuilt by the government... I mean, what's not to love in a film that cares so much about millions of people we never get to see?Put the popcorn in the microwave and the brain in neutral and watch it. Grand idiotic fun.
