As Good As It Gets
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
The least we can say is that Kicking & Screaming is not Will Ferrell's best movie. But I could say luckily Will Ferrell is in this movie, just to attempt to save this comedy. I'm a fan of the dorkish Will Ferrell and that's the only reason I watched this movie. His facial expressions and nerdiness makes him a good comedian. I like Robert Duvall as well and was surprised that he played in this movie. The story is pretty lame but I didn't expect much from that side, but this was probably one of the worst 'soccer' (or football like we call it here) movies I ever saw. And that just because how they filmed the soccer scenes, completely ridiculous moves, things you will never see in any game, not even from the worst players ever. So luckily we had Will Ferrell, to make us laugh a couple of times, because the rest is seriously not worth mentioning.
I'm pretty sure they just pointed the camera on Will Ferrell and said 'go'. Although someone wrote a script, but you wouldn't know, because Ferrell's character changes from scene to scene, lurching from one thing to another. There's a bit about coffee, which doesn't make any sense. Mike Ditka at all doesn't make sense. This whole movie seems to have been all shot in single takes, so lopsided and random it is. The pacing is way off: either a skit is too long, or too short. I think there's a father-son lesson, but daddy and his team are barely on screen, so that didn't work, which is typical. Was it funny? Like watching an episode of SNL, you watch jokes happen, and maybe laugh once every fifteen minutes or so. You recognise that what is happening is in fact, a succession of jokes and, out of desperation, you laugh at one or two of them.Jokes frequently fall flat, because even they don't make sense. (e.g. Ferrell attempts to taunt one of the opposition players. Why? To get him sent off? To put him off? The pay off is that the kid attacks Ferrell, to which Ferrell seems surprised, which was surely why he did it in the first place).
This is another Will Ferrell sports comedy and it is definitely the best of them all. Its better then Blades of Glory and Talladega Nights. I am yet to see Semi-Pro but it doesn't look too good.Ever since 2005 we have been getting a Will Ferrell sports comedy every year. Maybe its time to stop. Kicking & Screaming is a fun family comedy. It has heart and is a must-see for a family looking for a movie to watch together. We have had ice skating, race car driving and basketball. This one is about soccer.A family man called Phil Weston has been victim to his dad's obsession to win all his life. Now he has a chance to get revenge on his dad through coaching a soccer team and trying defeat his dad and get a special soccer ball that has always been rightfully his. With the help of an ex-football coach he learns how to coach a team. But his coaching gets out of control resulting in hilarious situations. The soccer kids where great. Every kid had a different personality and each play there part very nicely. I don't think Will Ferrell needs to give a good performance in this movie he was hilarious and thats all that mattered to me. For those who want to know he was good but not great. This is the ideal family movie. I recommend it for a good time. It has hilarious moments that both kids and adults will love and even relate to.8/10
Phil Weston is an average person who has had to take his father Buck's over-competitiveness throughout his childhood, an upbringing which has left permanent psychological scars. Now middle-aged, married, with a young son named Sam. Phil runs a small vitamin store, whilst his Buck operates a local chain of sports stores, and a big one.Buck is manager of the Gladiators, the most successful little-league soccer team in the district. Sam is on the squad, but to his parent's annoyance his grandfather keeps him as a bench warmer rather than playing him, a humiliation he also visited upon his son decades prior. Buck eventually transfers Sam to the Tigers, the league's worst side. I don't want to give to much away so, thats the end
