This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

Hot Rod is a daft but enjoyable film. Keep your expectations low, have a good time with the stupid stunts and the middle of the road soft rock soundtrack.Rod Kimble (Andy Samberg) wants to be like his late father a stuntman who worked with Evel Knievel. However his stepfather Frank (Ian McShane) thinks he is a loser and not really a man. They usually spar where Rod gets the hell beaten out of him, but it is all in good fun. Rod just wants his stepfather's approval.When Frank needs life saving heart surgery, Rod and his friends decide to raise the money by performing a dangerous stunt.Hot Rod is a goofy movie, not too funny but its heart is in the right place.

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Everyone needs to see this atleast once in there life. If you can't laugh at all you have no soul.

Akiva Schaffer's delivery of Pam Brady's excellent simple script is exactly what is needed. Whilst Sandler, Apatow/Rogen et al peddle tired formulas, and Hollywood pushes regurgitated pulp speckled with gross, drug induced or sexually explicit moments, film makers like Schaffer actually make these formulas work. With all the ingredients of an assembly line crass top ten American comedy, and a leaf from Jared Hess's book, it is successfully very funny.Akiva is not a one trick pony either. His excellent 'Popstar' film is probably more sophisticated as well as being a parody, but is also a first class example of the "I'm with stupid" style American humour. Admittedly, his other movie 'The Watch' did not deliver as much (Rogen's script) despite having a first class cast. Schaffer shows he's an excellent comedy film maker and I hope he doesn't fall down the same rabbit hole / eternal loop as Sandler did after his golden period.Andy Samberg is enjoyable as always, and the supporting characters and cast are fantastic. Also noticeable is the unbelievable soundtrack featuring excerpts from Europe's 'Final Countdown' album.Samberg and Schaffer with a great script and cast.

Hot Rod is a good movie with a well written storyline and a fantastic comedic cast. It is a very fun movie that you will likely enjoy from start to finish, it's a very simple story, it's obviously nothing inspirational or uplifting, but it's just a very enjoyable comedy. The main thing that makes this movie so good is the ridiculous dialogue between the characters and of course the great chemistry between cast members, many of them come from Saturday Night Live and you can tell they are close. My favourite scenes are the ones between Andy Samberg and Isla Fisher, their chemistry was pure and the relationship between the characters definitely had me in stitches the most. It's certainly nowhere near perfect, but Hot Rod is a very quick and very fun movie that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good comedy. A would-be daredevil motorcycle stunt rider tries to raise funds for his stepfather to receive an operation.Best Performance: Andy Samberg Worst Performance: Sissy Spacek
