***Spoilers Ahead, Most Definitely*** Usually I avoid horror movies that are all guts & gore like Chain Letter but there was something about this movie that made me just want to see it.The way it starts off,WOW!!! If that doesn't get your attention I don't know what will. After the 1st kill scene, Chain Letter held my attention till the very end.And that was my main problem with this movie, the ending.Even though it was a gorefest, I enjoyed it up until then. When the final credits were rolling up the screen I thought, that's it?! It's over?! I thought I had accidentally hit a button & it restarted itself from the beginning. What kind of ending was that??? It left so many questions unanswered.I would say the ending was done like that to leave the door open for a sequel but since Chain Letter came out in 2009 & it's 2016 now, I don't see a sequel ever happening. What was a pretty descent movie ended up being totally screwed up by a lousy ending

A group of high school friends pass a digital chain letter to each other sent from a real killer. The killer is using the kid's technology against them and gives them 24 hours to send it to someone else. Most ignore it until they are found brutally killed. Jessie Campbell (Reed) begins to catch on and tries to convince her friends and the police that this is real. Flirting with torture porn in places but really a bloody slasher movie at heart, 'Chain Letter' unfortunately takes one step backwards for every step taken forward. Director Deon Taylor makes a huge mistake opening the film by showing the audience the final scene. It is quite a dozy but it is completely ruined when we get there from seeing it in the beginning. One step forward and then back. The killer is a savage and the deaths are extremely gory and nasty. One step forward. Taylor manages no suspense at all to his death scenes and the attempts at jump scares don't work. One step back. The body count is high and the movie is well made. One step forward. The plot has holes you could drive a car through with lapses in logic. One step back. Slightly entertaining in a dry way, this movie is frustrating overall and never catches a rhythm due to its inconsistency.

After receiving and failing to forward a chain letter, a group of friends find themselves killed off one-by-one by a masked madman and must find a way to stop him before they're all killed. There was a lot of good things here which makes this a great deal of fun. The most notable of the film's positives is the awesome death scenes which are incredibly gory and a lot of fun. Some of the kills are pretty suspenseful and definitely creepy, and the action presented in the set-ups are rather fun, from the film's opening where a chained victim to different cars driving away from the same driveway, the football player who gets his face ripped apart by the steel in the high-school gym or the garage encounter in front of the visiting friend. That also helps out here with the stalking scenes throughout here as this one generates some really tense and thrilling scenes which makes for a surprisingly suspenseful time, as the walk-through of the abandoned pant with the dangling chains makes for a really comic feel, the big encounter in the bathroom where he traps her girlfriend inside and has to hold him off from breaking in is a particularly chilling highlight sequence and the stalking of the brother is really creepy with the continuous chain letters popping up driving him insane before getting to the big ambush kill in fine fashion are all really fun suspense scenes that make for a really great time here. This one also manages to get a lot right with the killer featured here who is quite imposing, not only being a muscular hulk of a man but wears a really imposing mask that works well due to the simplicity of it all, plus there's the added bonus of the unusual weapon for doling out the death that works really well and adds an extra dimension to the kills. These here are more than enough to hold this one up against the few flaws. The main problem here, which is what's really damaging to the film overall, is the utter cluelessness of them to figure out what's going on, waiting until far too late into the film to finally determine the true nature of what's happening and getting the proper authorities to realize the matter from there doesn't have any time to develop because of their cluelessness, which could've been avoided rather early on. As well, the cult angle comes out of nowhere and has so little set-up it's hard to feel for them since we know nothing about them, their purpose or even the motive behind this batch of kills, making for a wholly disappointing story overall that makes the first half here rather tough to get into. Likewise, there's also a pretty weak and overall lousy suspense scene in that section where he stalks the friend in the gym in a really protracted sequence that forever and really weakens it's suspenseful attempts here. It's still watchable due to the gore and the kills, but a little more info would work well.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Brief Nudity.

An anti-tech cult promotes a teen murder spree, killing those teenagers that do not forward a chain letter. A detective investigates the murders. When I saw this DVD on sale, I did not believe on IMDb User Rating and I decided to buy and see this garbage. If you also do not believe, spend you time and money because I will not spend more time writing about a torture film where the real victim is the viewer. My vote is one (awful).Awful! Awful! Awful! Awful!Title (Brazil): "A Corrente do Mal" ("The Evil Chain Letter")
