I Love You Phillip Morris
Steven Russell leads a seemingly average life – an organ player in the local church, happily married to Debbie, and a member of the local police force. That is until he has a severe car accident that leads him to the ultimate epiphany: he’s gay and he’s going to live life to the fullest – even if he has to break the law to do it. Taking on an extravagant lifestyle, Steven turns to cons and fraud to make ends meet and is eventually sent to the State Penitentiary where he meets the love of his life, a sensitive, soft-spoken man named Phillip Morris. His devotion to freeing Phillip from jail and building the perfect life together prompts him to attempt (and often succeed at) one impossible con after another.

Very best movie i ever watch
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
What a sack of junk. I am sick and tired of characters who are so Christian and such family men who out of nowhere "decide" to be the real whatever. And of course the wife and kiddies are supposed to be all for it! And of course this guy manages to drop careers like breath mints and always come up with some great boyfriend, etc. I absolutely HATE IT when the new "husband" sits there smirking while the ex-wife is on the phone.As for gay sex in prison, give me a break. There is nothing romantic about it - they are just horny captives, that's all. The old line that lifers write the best love letters is true. What else do they have to do with their time?I simply did not find the premise charming at all but I guess if you are hardcore gay you latch onto any film that you think appeals to your "community." But prison sex is just prison sex - big deal. I did not stick around to see what he was dying from because frankly, I did not care.
I Love You Philip Morris is based on a true story of a real life con man Steven Russell. Playing Steve Russell is Jim Carrey in his best acting performance to date. This indie film is a very well structured drama/comedy that has strong storytelling, great acting and direction and large doses of black humor. The story starts as Steve Russell living a straight life as a cop with his wife and daughter. After an automobile accident he decides to come out of the closet and live his life as a gay man. He soon realizes that to maintain his lavish and flamboyant lifestyle require more than his honest job wage can suppliment. So, he orchestrates a series of scams that put him in prison. He then meets the love of his life, Philip Morris and as the romance escalates, so does the scams. Jim Carrey is brilliant in this role and Ewan Mc Gregor deserves a lot of credit as well. I have no idea how much of this story is truth or fiction, but it is a remarkable story. Overall the film is very smart, funny and well made. Great movie.
Steven Russell (Jim Carrey) is a cop married to Debbie (Leslie Mann) with a milk and cookies family. He finds his birth mom but she rejects him. He feels like something's wrong. He packs up his family and moves to Texas. Oh! And he's gay. He's living a lie until a car accident. He comes out of the closet. Only his gay lifestyle is expensive and he becomes a con man. In prison, he falls for sweet Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor).The problem for me is that I never liked Steven. Jim Carrey is giving a big performance. I wish I can fall for this character but I can't. The jokes fall flat for me. I would rather have this be a serious movie and let the craziness be funny on its own terms. I think that I would be willing to laugh at Steven if the movie sets a slightly different tone. The material is there for a black comedy. This is a near miss for me.
When I was about to see this one I didn't know a thing about it so, for like the first time (almost ^^), I went "quasi" blank and with one bad review from a friend of mine. Got to say for moments I thought this movie was like a soap opera but in dominant homosexual environment. I was wrong! It was a con-movie with a very neutral way in relation of showing the life of a gay man. J. Carrey and E. McGregor were great. Ewan done a fantastic performance and Jim has done some incredible scenes showing some true and false flaws (I think) in the law system of Texas. Direction wise I must refer there was an awesome work playing around with the viewer (it had to be done to be a good con-film) in order to surprise almost always (to the end was predictable but I've been caught with it). Good film for the those who don't respect homosexuality
