You, Me and Dupree

After standing in as best man for his longtime friend Carl Petersen, Randy Dupree loses his job, becomes a barfly and attaches himself to the newlywed couple almost permanently -- as their houseguest. There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

I was expecting this film to to be humorous initially, however my expectations were greatly exceeded as this was by far the best movie of 2006 I have seen and probably the mid 2000s. First of all Owen Wilson plays a devilishly charming, almost lovable loser-esque character who is down on his luck and in bad times. Now, cut to Kate Hudson and Matt Dillion, who are a very new attractive couple of man and wife that just got married. What is the last thing they wanted to happen? Dupree (Wilson) comes to live with them and it's really funny. Dupree is the funniest part of You Me and Dupeee. Matt Dillon, the husband of the girl that Dupree is living with, isn't as funny. I didn't like him in it. Dupree gets into lots of zany situations and has so many memorable quotes. I'm not going to give anything away, that would be a total kick in the little Duprees (inside joke for people that have seen it)

This very much starts as a slacker type comedy with raucous male friends whilst Matt Dillon gets married and starts a new life as a newly wed married to Kate Hudson and he is working at his father in law's company (Michael Douglas). However Dillon takes in Dupree (Owen Wilson) when he goes through a rough patch and we cringe as he turns his life upside down with his nasty habits even leading to his house being burnt down and at work his father in law becomes overbearing even hinting that he does not want him to have children and wanting him to take his own surname. Now if Douglas's family name is so important to him why does he not want grandchildren? No wonder Dillon is going out of control and his relationship with his wife suffering as a result. He seemingly has no one to turn to. Dupree his best friend seems to have better relationships with the kids in the neighbourhood as children are the only ones he can relate to.The film has no idea what it wants to be. It is not a romantic comedy or a comedy at all. Maybe a dark comedy especially with Douglas overbearing on Dillon but this is punctured with the slapstick from Dupree and some of Dillon's friends such as Set Rogen. Dupree is hard to sympathise with even if you are a slacker although in the latter part he starts to inexplicably grow up. Also you can tell the film is not so good as you never believe in Dillon and Hudson as a couple.

You,Me and Dupree is a very funny movie with a great cast and a good storyline. This movie isn't very well rated, especially on Rotten Tomatos where it only has 21%,I think its very underrated because I found some parts it the movie very funny with some cringe moments, like the part with the fire, that had me laughing out loud. Some moments in it reminded me of the Meet The Parents series, which I liked because I find them very funny.I really liked the films cast, especially Matt Dillon,Owen Wilson and Seth Rogen,I find them all great.Newlyweds,Molly (Kate Hudson) and Carl (Matt Dillon),a settling in there new house in the suburbs until Carl finds out that his best man,Dupree (Owen Wilson) is down on his luck and sleeping in a bar every night.Without Mollys permission,Carl lets Dupree move in with them.Dupree promises he will move out as soon as he gets a new job, which doesn't seem to be happening and Dupree overstays his welcome.

I like Kate Hudson as an actress but I think she just wasn't enough to make this film good. I don't like Owen Wilson and I couldn't stand his character in this movie, it was annoying and certainly not funny. Matt Dillon on the other hand was good, he had done a great job, could have done better though if there was a better script. While watching it, I went to the kitchen, done some stuff for a minute or two without pausing the movie. And you know what that means.. it just wasn't good enough to make you not want to miss even a second of it. It wasn't tense and I think it could be a lot funnier. I only liked the end of this movie because it actually had a plot. A tense plot. I think even I could write a better script. Sorry.
