Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

'Babysitter Wanted' is pretty much 'horror by the numbers,' It offers little that you haven't already seen before, i.e. pretty girl being stalked by... whatever madman/beastie the filmmakers desire. However, just because it's formulaic, doesn't mean it's that bad. Don't get me wrong, it's no classic. It won't be remembered alongside Halloween and Scream, but, if you're into horror/teen slasher, then this could give you an hour and a half's general amusement (or just under ninety minutes actually, as it's quite a short film).A girl takes a job as a babysitter and... well, let's just say things don't turn out as planned. It's a film of two halves. It does its best to lead you in one direction, only to then pull away in another (hoping you haven't already guessed what's coming). It's far from perfect. The director seems to want to use brief bursts of incidental music at every given opportunity. It's too much and it just gets annoying. Plus, when the babysitter is alone in the house, obviously she has no one to talk to. Therefore she - kind of - gives us viewers a running commentary of her thoughts, taking the phrase 'thinking out loud' to its literalness. If you're into horror and easily pleased (or just very forgiving of B-movies in general) then give this one a go. It slightly raises its head above the pool of terribly generic horror offerings currently on DVD.

People often ask how I find and pick the really independent films I sometimes review. In the case of Babysitter Wanted, it was an easy choice, as nothing is scarier to me that an evil child. Strangely enough the film also features several cast members from a TV show I really liked, Kyle XY. The story begins with the deeply religious, Angie (Sarah Thompson), going away to college. Looking for some extra money, she picks up a job babysitting for a family living in the middle of nowhere. Everything seems normal at first, until one night someone tries to break in, and to everyone's surprise, the beautiful young girl is not the target of his rage. This film was very unusual for a religious based horror film, as it wasn't over the top with religious jargon. It was a major theme of the film, but they don't beat you over the head with it the way other films do. It's also unlike your usual slasher films as it has a good cast, a decent and somewhat unique story, and most important of all, it doesn't move at lightning speed. Almost every slasher film I've ever seen has 15 minutes of story and then it's one big chase, but that doesn't happen here. They spend a lot of time on the story and when things do happen, they are pretty surprising. Sarah Thompson stars as the babysitter, while being your typical beautiful horror movie girl, she was also very credible and connected with the audience. Watching this film, you feel like you know her or someone like her, and you'll be cheering for her in a way you really don't do in films like this. She's paired with Kyle XY himself, Matt Dallas, another really good looking, likable person, that audiences will also relate to. Once you see the whole picture, it's going to seem a bit odd to you, but the Directors and Casting people really hit the nail on the head, making this seem like anything but a slasher film until the time was just right, making for a really enjoyable and unique type of film.

OK, this is very low budget "Satan has his child movie", all right. The authors seem to repeat all dumb clichés almost in canonical order which makes this movie annoying beyond any description. The female hero is Christian yet she makes no attempt to pray in the face of evil. Instead she cries "please let me go". God seems to be somewhat useless or absent here completely. The only moment for prayer is before meeting the Devil and after that. Is it possible to lose your faith when you see the living proof of your faith? The child behaves super strange, he wants to eat meat only, there are skulls and other satanic items in the house yet the hero does not seem to have any bad feeling about this. There must be some rule "never hurt your real enemy". So when she hurts the priest, she hurts him hard. When she has the chance to kill the "father" or the "son", she never does that. She only hurts them slightly so she can gimp around about half of an hour and repeatedly hurt her enemy a little.By the way, the priest never makes any attempt to explain what he is doing. He behaves as neonazi satanist combined with zombie and partially Freddy Krueger. The only way how to save the heroine is some random chance. Without that she would probably gimp around forever. Her pure, ever loving handsome asexual boyfriend is found dead in the middle of the movie only to be found not dead in the moment his help is not longer needed. After fight with two super sized psychos she just succumbs to little devil boy even when he does not display any sort of super power. She does not try to use any help from God, she does not attempt to destroy him for good even when she notices the special knife owned by non-communicating Krueger looking priest. The farm is searched thoroughly by the police, but the very strange looking knife is left where it was. She and her boyfriend can finally grab the knife and start search for the "son". It would be too easy and unfair to kill him when he was hanged and hurt. This is so so so incredibly stupid. There must be some "thriller" subcategory for this. "Naive and stupid heroes make repeated useless attempts to fight the Evil so the viewer can see some torture and wisdom from the mind of the psychopaths." Please stop making these movies and give us some real heroes.

As a horror fan I am always on the look out for films that may have gone straight to DVD and are hidden classics waiting to be found. Sadly, Babysitter Wanted is not a classic. However it is an entertaining little exploitation flick that will satisfy gore hounds and those who like a bit of old school style. Basically the film is about a religious and wholesome girl who goes to college, then feels like she is being watched, takes a job as a babysitter in the middle of nowhere and then over the course of the night gets terrorised. Be warned, there is a twist in this movie and it may kill your interest stone dead. I liked the twist, however I didn't like the way it was carried out. First of all the twist. She is babysitting the devils son, with horns, a need for virgin flesh.. the lot. However once the twist is revealed I felt the film went downhill although I liked the idea. The film starts like Halloween and even the way the camera is used and the lighting reminds you of those 70s classic slasher movies. So the Babysitter is stalked and terrorised by a mysterious man outside trying to get in the house. Once the twist is revealed it moves onto Texas Chainsaw/Hostel/Saw territory and for some reason then ignores the devil kid and we have the dad giving a monologue to the babysitter as he is dismembering another girl rather graphically. I felt this was a bit tacked in, so it would be in line with other popular horrors around at the moment such as saw or hostel. This is where I felt the movie slide. The guy who plays the devils minder was rubbish, and the focus went away from the evil kid. The tone of the movie shifts from creepy to gory. The only other things that I could not let slip were the injuries. First of all the chief of police gets an axe in the back then gets up? Then the babysitter gets a knife rammed into her Achilles tendon then manages to stumble away. I know the movie is far fetched but you just wouldn't get up from that. Finally one thing that really gets me in some movies. Un necessary characters. At the beginning the babysitter meets a guy, you know the movie kind, he is blue eyed, handsome and just a damn nice fellow - they have a little date thing and she likes him, he likes her etc. He then gives her a lift to the house and goes back to fix her car which had broken down. We next meet him stuffed in the back of a car pretty much dead according the devils minder. Then he re appears at the end with a scratch on his head tending to the babysitter as she wakes up in hospital. What was the point of this guy? Anyway it was decent if you like a bit of torture porn, a bit of Halloween, a bit of Texas Chainsaw and a touch of the Omen.
