Memorable, crazy movie
I'll tell you why so serious
I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
I stated to watch this movie seeing the crew despite this low rating. A review helped me saying it's not actually a rom-com rather a romantic drama. If you're in a comedy mood then you'll be disappointed. Watch this movie as a drama. It has good pace in it, not too slow.I liked this movie very very much. This movie has genuine script which is very refreshing. Acting was good. Definitely Watchable movie.
A movie packed with good actors and such bad story-writing, it's honestly hard to watch. So basically, the story goes like this: We have this girl, who is an ex-baseball player, depressed over the end of her career & a famous baseball player, who also happens to be a lady-killer. The lady-killer falls in love with the girl, but his approach to love & being in a relationship is (especially in the beginning) rather controversial & selfish. This creates quite a few obstacles for him on his love quest. He tries to change his ways for the girl, he just doesn't know any better, leaving her unsure as to their future. But hey, did I tell you there was another suitor for the girl? Nope? Probably because he's so boring you forget about him before you even stop looking at him. So the other pal, mind you, is a sorry excuse for an ex-CEO of a large company who behaves more like a dollar store manager & who was just fired by his own father (the real deal), after the company has been put under federal investigation for fraud. So basically what does he do throughout the whole movie? Tries to uncover the truth, clean himself from accusations? None of the above. He decides to take these 121min of your life to run away from talking with his father and responsibility (which BTW I'm not saying he is to take, but behaving like a child isn't gonna solve the problem either). The woman he was in love with dumps him straight after she hears of his troubles, which is when he sort of accidentally gets to know the main heroine and instantly falls in love with her. So that's it. Guess who the heroine chooses? The a little too open, yet willing to change baseball relationship underdog who changes his ways for her, or the chickenhead with bad taste for women? Yep, you guessed it, it's the chickenhead. Beats me. I literally bled inside for everything that was wrong about this choice & the plot in general.
How Do You Know (2010): Dir: James L. Brooks / Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, Jack Nicholson, Kathryn Hahn: Here is a two part film about fate that involves Reese Witherspoon and two men in her life. She was just let go as a soft ball coach and struggles to maintain her composure. Paul Rudd plays a date whom she learns is up on legal charges within his business although he claims innocence. Owen Wilson plays her athletic boyfriend who is so use to picking up women that he fails to grasp the concept of a real relationship. Directed by James L. Brooks who helmed such classics as Terms of Endearment and Broadcast News. His films often study the struggle of relationships verses profession. The subplots are divided within either male Witherspoon happens to be in sequence with. She is weighing her options and despite both males having good points, only one can win her over. Rudd comes off as stressed yet finds relief in Witherspoon. His job is a pressure under circumstances he is unable to make clear, but she provides temporary release. Wilson brings the most humour in his constant screwing up. Witherspoon moves in with him but his emotional understanding is questionable at best. Jack Nicholson plays Rudd's father in a limited yet scene stealing role where Rudd is forced to make a crucial decision. Kathryn Hahn plays a pregnant secretary who gives inside information to Rudd that could save him from going to prison. Romantic fluff done with intelligence and with a theme of fate and our veering into the the unknown. Score: 7 / 10
I found this movie (that's "film" for all you faux elites) well directed and unusually affecting. There was a real connection to the characters and their process of establishing a relationship. I was surprised by the acting of Reese and Owen. For Reese, I have not seen her every work but it is by far the most well acted. For Owen, it not easy to portray a genuinely vacant playboy - well done. This is definitely not your mass produced romantic comedy. The comedy is a bit low key but effective and helps keep you interested. The romance is subtle, much like the real thing in life. All of this is of course is my very humble opinion but I was very pleasantly surprised.
