Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
So much average
I'll tell you why so serious
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
This is a decent straight to DVD sequel and actually quite watchable. Sure there is obvious plot-holes and things just don't connect well with the first "30 Days of Night". But for a straight to DVD sequel it's actually a entertaining popcorn flick, sure it's dumb in some areas but it's watchable. After the incident from the first movie the female protagonist Stella played by a different actress is trying to prove that vampire exists to the world. But the the vampires does thing to make it like she is crazy and it's just a hoax. And in this time instead of running and hiding, well there is running and hiding. Stella joins a group of vampire hunters that had similar experiences and have lost loved ones and tries to go on hunts. And there main target is the queen of the vampires. There is quite a bit of vampire fighting action in this movie and the production value is alright for a straight to DVD movie. It's a dumb vampire hunting movie but it doesn't get to the point where it got really annoying because of it. And was somewhat entertaining.6/10
This is another example of a sequel not living up to the standard of its predecessor. In this particular case, Kiele Sanchez has taken over the character of "Stella Oleson" from the original movie, "30 Days of Night". And while she is certainly attractive enough, her acting was barely sufficient for the task at hand. Especially considering that few of the supporting cast managed to perform in an adequate manner at all. Rhys Coiro ("Paul"), for example, was simply awful. Likewise, most of the situations were just plain ludicrous. For instance, it's one thing to engage in a gun battle in an isolated Arctic town in the middle of nowhere. But try that in Los Angeles and the police would be all over the place. Yet apparently the audience is supposed to believe that a person can shoot all kinds of firearms in a warehouse and even blow the roof off without being noticed or heard. Only in Hollywood. Then there was the strange ending involving the death of "Lilith" (played by Mia Kirshner) in which Stella was allowed to walk right through the group of vampires--totally unmolested. Apparently they were too shocked to feast upon her. Now, in the original movie it might have made sense as the victor, "Eben Oleson", was also a vampire. But it made no sense the second time around. Again, this was a sequel and it simply was not up to the same standard as the original. Nowhere close.
What a let down. I loved 30 Days of Night. It was one of the very few films that even manage to get me on edge. It reached for the really frightening. Its vampires were a new take on an old story and there were real production value in the film. Now, forget all I said because none of it applies to this, so called, sequel. As soon as I saw the previews that ran before this film on DVD I knew that it had been put in the lowest category of releases. All you have to do is see a preview of Piranha 3D and you know you made a mistake.Too bad, because I would think there was more worthwhile story to be found. Unfortunately these producers didn't even look.AVOID!
30 Days of Night was a fun action-horror film with literary value. The inferior sequel attempts to be just fun action-horror, in the spirit of Blade, and fails even at that.Reminiscent of The Hills Have Eyes 2 (sequel to the remake) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV series), this insipid snore fest had me guffawing every couple of minutes. I haven't rooted for the deaths of dumb characters like this since the kids in Jurassic Park.Where the first film surprised at every turn, the sequel seems to setup clever reversals but never follows through--the writers seem to take their dumb first idea every time, totally predictable and implausible.Apart from the most unromantic, awkward, borderline-inappropriate love scene I can recall, there were no highlights worth mentioning. Avoid this tripe at all cost.
