There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

I watch a movie is to enjoy what i see..period..i seldom incorporate too much reality into details unless it is obvious... like i live in the Philippines and our situation may not be the same as people living in Los Angeles.. so i enjoy this movie for what i see as possible.. not considering what people in L.A. may have experience an entirely different thing (actuality)Just one curiosity .. when Kim Bassinger cut the armpit of the man and told him he will die instantly and feel numb all over his body.. is this true?/ anyway i love the movie and enjoy the trip through and through.. Chris Evans was a newbie in this film and he did well for a whatever training he had ...not to mention his good looks is a plus factor as the cameraman is like 90% on his face .. capturing all his emotions.. he did pretty fantastic in this aspect..Kim is all jittery and shaky in her voice.. and i love her acting and her eyes are seemingly teary all the time as emotions filled mother would have been...I felt bad if we see entertaining the it is entertaining for all its worth.. love to say this.. IT'S JUST A MOVIE...sit back and relax..

There are no underlying profound messages to be had in Cellular. There are no atmospheric flairs or hidden political themes either. It's just a simple, straightforward story with decent actors, decent art direction and function-only directing. Cellular is essentially the grandson of action flicks like Speed (1994) or The Fugitive (1993). Chris Evans plays an average California slacker who receives a cellphone call from an older woman (Kim Basinger). She frantically tells him she's being held captive for some unknown reason and her kidnappers are after her husband and child. With that Evans has to decide whether he believes her and whether he can do anything about it.I need not tell you that the physically capable Chris Evans ends up being the savior of this entrenched family and he becomes their future-Captain-America by fumbling his way through a labyrinth of physical and psychological feats. It's fun to watch and what's utilized well in this film versus his other flagship projects is his ability to do comedy. When Cellular came out the only other place I recognized Evans was in Not Another Teen Movie (2001). A movie which despite some serious faults showed that the actor had a capability to make us chuckle. Here, under David R. Ellis's nuts and bolts direction, we have a proper mix of Captain America and teen heartthrob Jake Wyler. Did I also meantion William H. Macy and Jason Statham are also in this movie?

Thank you paulsandberg from United States and Anthony Dunn from Denver, Colorado. Reading the first few reviews of this film made me think I'd been watching a different "Cellular" movie. But no, I was right. This really WAS such a bad movie and all the previous and ridiculous reviews praising it and saying how wonderful and exciting it was were clearly written by friends / partners / husbands / wives / (you get the idea) of the producers / director / cleaner (you get the idea), etc.I could only stand it for 25 minutes and gave up when he "got cut off by a bus".I liked the way all the girls at the beach were about 18 to 25, single, perfect bodies, without any guys, totally available and ready to talk to anyone. I mean, this is so much like real life. And when he jumped in his car, parked right there on the beach road, where no one else wanted to park... so much like real life.Just don't waste your time on this nonsense.

Action thrillers are not a genre of films I normally enjoy so I wasn't expecting too much before I watched this one. It's pretty clear from the opening scenes that this is a film that you could spend all day picking apart if you so desired. However this genre isn't about plausibility it's about sheer entertainment. On that basis this film hits the mark it intended too. It's extremely fast paced with explosive scenes and situations following one after another. Cellular doesn't take itself seriously and I always felt that the action had its tongue firmly in its cheek. The film has a strong cast who all do a decent job. For me the film succeeded due to highly likable performances from Chris Evans and William H Macy. Although it is quite obviously an amazingly far fetched movie, I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed it. If you are in the mood for some mindless entertainment you really can't do much better than this.
