It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Bobby and Melissa are on a road trip to Las Vegas with Melissa's sister, Kayla, and her "boyfriend", Nik, who she met online. Unfortunately, their car breaks down and when they come across a seemingly abandoned house, they decide to "borrow" a car they find in the garage. What they don't know is that the house wasn't abandoned and the car belongs to a trucker who goes by the name of Rusty Nail. Rusty Nail contacts Melissa after she leaves her number at the house, and to say that Rusty Nail isn't happy that they took his car would be an understatement. A dangerous game of cat-and-mouse ensues, and Rusty Nail will stop at nothing to take more than what he thinks he deserves.Joy Ride 2 is not too bad of a follow up to the enjoyable Joy Ride. I mean it's obviously not the best movie you'll see but it's definitely not the worst one either. It's really nothing more than an average road trip slasher film that is quite high in gore and low on plot and story. But then again you don't watch a movie like this for a riveting storyline. Here, the character of Rusty Nail has went from a seemingly lonely trucker who was just pranked (as in Joy Ride) to now what seems to be a serial killer who just kills for the pleasure of it. A Jason Voorhees of the highway if you like, and I think that's the main reason why the movie's not as good....it's gone down the stereotypical slasher path with your usual stereotypical characters. If you don't mind the usual cliché slasher movie then you will probably quite enjoy Joy Ride 2. Watchable but nothing to get too excited over.

Joy Ride 1 really wasn't that bad of a movie. It's nice to be able to see scenes in horror movies, i.e. in full daylight (also see The Devil's Rejects.) And Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead really wasn't that bad either. That being said, I was glad it was direct to DVD. The way it started off (Red flags shot straight up: here we go again! Back to Texas (yes, this was Utah, I know) and back to the chainsaw family seemed to be the setup) and the way the Internet punk transformed in the final act, were the extremely bad parts. If you can make it past the opening, and bear through the closing, it wasn't a terrible psycho preying on lost 20-something lost kids. The acting was okay (aside from the changed Emo boy), dialogue wasn't too awful (miss the Ted "Jame 'Buffalo Bill' Gumb" voice over, but this one was close enough) and suspense was good enough to give it one watch. After a day of watching Saw V followed by Joy Ride 2 – I would say they're both mediocre horror sequels that are worth watching, if just at home.

We watched the big truck jumping out of that cliff, then it exploded, the worst and the most disappointing thing was when I saw Rusty Nail again with a new truck , as if nothing happened to him , the question is : from where did he buy a new truck again? and I thought that I saw his body falling with his truck , right? Is he immortal or something? and I thought he killed those people because they made him angry but in the end , we saw him taking that woman without any reason, her car was just broken down please , it does not deserve 5/10 and please warn us about similar movies, I lost one hour and a half watching this movie at 2

As a sequel, it's is somewhat disappointing. It's not as bad as some other sequels and if it would have been a stand alone movie, it would be even okay. It's hard to watch it this way, though. But at least you get the feeling, that it wasn't a total waste of time after you're through. The story has some flaws. Even though the acting isn't that bad, they behave pretty stupid and obvious all the time. Also, they didn't manage to make you feel any sympathy or compassion for the characters and the agonies they go through. The gore in the movie is mostly out of place and not even exciting or shocking. It doesn't suit the situations and seems to have been build in only to make the movie more interesting. But it doesn't work, with one exception. I found the dice torturing game at the end of the movie quite interesting. It remembered me of the saw movies and it had more potential. Unfortunately, they kept the game too short. A few more rounds with no early game over for the opposite player would have been better. There is one of the plot errors, too. Why would Rusty Nail bother with the most cruel and brutal deaths in the movie and then return to such "harmless" things like heating up a letter in order to burn Bobbys breast? You'd expect at least that he would burn his breast with the blowtorch. Maybe he got bored by the dullness of the movie by himself.Even Rusty Nail seems to have changed since the first movie. In Joyride, you could understand why he did the things he did. He had some deeper motives and a reason. In the sequel, he's been degraded to a plain sadistic psycho with a habit of torturing people for trivial things. If you don't have high expectations or haven't seen the first movie, you might enjoy Joyride. I like trucks in movies, so I didn't mind much about the flaws.
