Memorable, crazy movie
Did you people see the same film I saw?
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
robert redford is such a great actor. but someone point out any movie where jennifer lopez was in any danger of being nominated for an academy award! this was terrible and a formula movie that i only watched because of my respect for redford. jennifer lopez is a terrible actress. hell, even calling her an actress is an insult to all actors. there is fame, and there is talent. talent's shadow has never fallen on miss lopez. she should go back to bad singing. and with all due respect mr redford, read the script first and do not sign onto any more badly written movies like this. you are better than this badly written, formula trash... did this movie even have a writer? a 1 rating is too kind.
Its a story about forgiveness. Its about how Einar (Redford) tries to forgive his daughter-in-law Jean (Jennifer Lopez). The story happens in a hillside village where a bear that hit Einar's close friend Mitch (Morgan Freeman) once and wounded him badly. All these have something intertwined between them. Fate. Forgiveness.I liked this movie's tone. It is not compelling anything to the audience. No overdone or dramatized emotions. No tear-filling performances. But different ones. Simple family emotions. To this simple story this gives a feeling that 'nothing happened' at all. But that's what life is for most of us. Nothing happened but everything is changed thereafter.Morgan Freeman (e.g. moments before the bear),Robert Redford, Becca Gardner, Jennifer Lopez.. sorted order of likable performances. If you liked the Director's earlier movies then there is a good chance that you would like this movie. I liked the director's narration style. Its a very under-toned style. That makes it impossible to forget the characters for me. For you ? Watch and find out.
This movie is the same as Robert Redford's movie " Ordinary Life ". The only difference is it's mid-west people, the dad is sad not the mom, the wife is to blame for the death not the brother, and they threw in the domestic violence with the boyfriend, a bear attack, and a kid. They acting of Jello was the same as usual with nostrils flaring throughout, Redford was the same person as in all his performances, Freeman was good as an injured person, and the kid was good with the emotional situations. The locations and the animals were nice. The scenery is the reason I would suggest to watch this movie, or if a person is into family drama. The bear has been in many films. I do like that the bear was able to continue on his way in the story.
My initial reaction after watching this movie was what a beautiful film visually and what a great story about love, acceptance and forgiveness. As I thought more about it I became more unsettled with some of the messages in the film.Every character but one gets understanding, redemption and love for behavior that led to pain, suffering and even death. The violent, possessive, abusive boyfriend gets none of it. He is portrayed as just plain bad who deserves a violent beating from the films hero - no redemption for this man. Restraint and consequences for bad behavior for sure but a viscous beating to be overlooked by the law? Isn't this some of the negative aspect of frontier culture this film wanted to challenge? Perhaps the origins of that man's behavior was in such abuse as a child and built into his psyche. However no understanding or forgiveness is warranted here. Instead of challenging the cycle of bullying, abuse and violence this film helps perpetuate it.
