Very best movie i ever watch
The Age of Commercialism
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
CongoThe reason humans teach gorillas sign language is so they can tell them to release the human child unharmed.Apparently though, the apt ape in this thriller is only hostile towards female competition.Primatologist Peter (Dylan Walsh) takes his talking gorilla Amy to Africa after she has a prophetic dream. Along for the ride are an electronics expert (Laura Linney), a philanthropist (Tim Curry) and a local guide (Ernie Hudson), each with their own motive.Eventually Amy's drawings lead the party to a cache of diamonds that have been protected by a race of vicious grey gorillas for ages, including a powerful blue diamond. With a laughable premise and even more pathetic special effects behind the man in the monkey suit, this adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel is a low point of 1990s cinema.Lastly, why teach a primate sign language when it's easier to get them to text? I read the book when it came out, but it took me this long to get around to watching the movie (although it's also possible I saw it a long time ago and completely forgot about it).It's definitely a fun movie, but the whole thing has a slapped-together feel with a lot of loose ends and unanswered questions - starting with the whole motivation. It begins with Bruce Campbell in the Congo, reporting via satellite phone to his father/CEO, reporting that he just discovered a large number of "special diamonds". In the book, Crichton gets his usual nerd on and explains that these particular diamonds may be the key to a new generation of faster semiconductors - something that was actually credible when the book was written. In the movie, they hint at this by saying "This will revolutionize communication", but he also loads one like a bullet into some sort of rifle and turns it into a laser/death ray thingy (huh?). In the end, isn't "a whole bunch of diamonds" motivation enough? They could have just left it at that.Communication is suddenly cut off on the Congo end, and the father/CEO loses his mind and smashes a golf club through the monitor (he apparently always carries one with him for just this purpose). He launches an expedition, led by Laura Linney, and she starts to pick people up along the way, including a guy with a talking gorilla (!), an expert guide, and Tim Curry as a Romanian - who ends up serving no purpose whatsoever.It turns into an old timey jungle adventure, that's fun as long as you don't overthink it, culminating in a not very believable end.The highlight is definitely Ernie Hudson (the black Ghostbuster) as the British guide. I would have liked to see a whole string of Indiana Jones-style movies starring his character.The low point is Joe Don Baker as the evil father/CEO. His character toggles between saccharine sweetness and full blown freakouts, with nothing in between.Laura Linney is good, but kind of wasted, and Tim Curry is just kind of goofy.One of the reviews talks about the "low budget", but $50 million was pretty respectable in 1995. That's almost the budget of the first Jurassic Park; nevertheless, it's definitely a cheap looking B-movie, particularly the gorillas.Bottom line: fun, as long as your expectations aren't too high. I just can't shake the feeling that with a little tweaking and clean-up, this could have been a really memorable movie.
In Congo, Charles Travis (Bruce Campbell) is testing a communication system by laser with his former fiancée Dr. Karen Ross (Laura Linney) for the TraviCom network. Charles is the son of the millionaire R.B. Travis (Joe Don Baker), who owns the TraviCom and is Karen's employer. Charles and his friend Jeffrey (Taylor Nichols) find the ruins of a lost city but are somehow killed. Meanwhile their camp is completely destroyed and then the camera is shut down by a creature. Travis discloses to Karen that his son was actually trying to find a rare blue diamond in Congo and sends her to look for him. Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Elliot (Dylan Walsh) and his assistant Richard (Grant Heslov) are testing communication with the gorilla Amy and they decide to take her back to Congo since the animal seems to miss her birthplace. However they have funding issue but the Romanian philanthropist Herkermer Homolka (Tim Curry) offers to financially assist them. In the airport, Karen provides more money and joins the expedition. In the politically unstable Africa, they meet the experienced guide Captain Munro Kelly (Ernie Hudson) that bribes Captain Wanta (Delroy Lindo) to let them go. Further, he discloses that Homolka's real intention is to find the Lost City of Zinj. Then they embark in a plane in the beginning of a dangerous adventure in Congo. Despite the negative reviews, "Congo" is an entertaining but outdated jungle adventure movie in the style of Tarzan, with lost city, dangerous gorillas and forgotten tribe of natives. The screenplay does not develop well the relationship among Charles Travis, his apparently estranged father R.B. Travis and Dr. Karen Ross but the film works on a rainy Saturday afternoon. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): Congo"
I think this was a pretty good movie, aside from the monkey being obviously fake and burping after drinking a martini? there were some great moments. For instance using the flares for the heat seeking ground launched missiles. That was pretty cool.The chick isn't bad looking either. The movie is always moving, with something to keep your attention.I think it is a pretty good movie.I like the black guy, don't know his name but he's like the alpha, but he's polite.
