Johnny (Josh Stewart) works as a middle man for his drug dealing uncle (Ronnie Gene Blevins) living in the outskirts of Cutter, Mississippi with his girlfriend Rosie (Alex Essoe). Troy (Bill Engvall) is his sole neighbor. Johnny and Rosie have made secret plans to leave town. Troy hints that he knows Johnny's business and has secrets of his own...and he does. After 50 minutes of character introduction we finally get into the meat of the film which is your basic abduction film...captured, escape, repeat. The movie opens with grainy film during the credits, which was clever considering the occupation of Troy which is kept secret for much of the feature. We are made to identify with Johnny the likable drug dealer as our protagonist, while a profile of Troy during this period would have been far more interesting. It is just about impossible to sneak around inside a small farmhouse that has three people in it...just saying. Decent soundtrack and acting.Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
I absolutely loved this movie. I was jumping out of my chair so many times with my heart racing. Granted one of my favorite movies is The Collector so it kind of makes sense. Josh Stewart was great as always. A surprise came with Bill Engvall. I knew the guy was funny, but he can also act, and he does a wonderful job in this as the creepy hillbilly. I just can't praise this movie enough. It was raw and terrifying. This is what I want out of a horror movie. Unfortunately I had never heard of it before until a review on Bloodbath and Beyond. Out of all the crap that comes out, this should have got more attention. I am so happy that I watched this and would recommend it to anyone. Wonderful, absolutely wonderful. Don't now if this is a spoiler or not but the only reason I didn't give it a 10 was because Bill should have realized the music downstairs had turned off. Other than that I thought it was perfect. Thank you guys for delivering a top notch horror movie.
It's Sunday, Oct 23rd and my first feature was The Neighbor, directed by Marcus Dunstan. Starring the star of The Collector films, Josh Stewart, (this is a third film collaboration between Stewart and Dunstan), Alex Essoe, (Starry Eyes, Tales Of Halloween) and Bill Engvall. This is truly a mind blowing top-notched horror thriller that will keep your adrenaline pumping. An extremely intense performance by both Josh Stewart and Alex Essoe. Bill Engvall is one hell of an actor, this is the first movie I have seen of his. Skillful special effects were done by FX Master and Legend Robert Kurtzman. This movie was just so thrilling with that terrifying vibe. So many great things about this movie. It felt like I was watching a third chapter in The Collector series. What an experience on a Sunday afternoon. I'm gonna give this flick an excellent 5 out of 5 stars. Any movie directed by Marcus, I'll be damn sure to own it, because he's such a remarkable director including Josh Stewart, a favorite actor of mine. One of the best films of 2016, and the finest horror thrillers I've ever seen!!!
I came across this one because I liked Don't Breathe (2016) people said well there's another one in that style to watch but hasn't got the publicity the other one had. So i picked it up.It starts rather as a flick about dealing in drugs and living underground to earn money so John (Josh Stewart) and his girlfriend Rosie (Alex Essoe) can leave it all behind and go to start a new life. Until that point this flick is not delivering but of course on day they got a visit from their neighbor. From there on this flick suddenly turns into a brutal flick were it doesn't matter who's face is smashed to bits, girl or boy. I can't go too deep into the story or I would spoil it all but you just doesn't see it coming how this flick turns into a horror suspense flick.Excellent flick, don't bother about the characters not being evolved, this is all about surviving.
