Strong and Moving!
Just perfect...
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
...which is to say, Tony "Candyman" Todd, who in his waning years seems willing to take a role in any piece of crap that his agent recommends. And make no mistake, "Shadow Puppets" is crap, a prime example of Sturgeon's Revelation, and an utter timewaster in almost every respect except in the service of adolescent voyeurism. Badly written and directed by a nobody who even had the nerve to cast a related nobody in his turgid "thriller" (and I use the term in full sarcasm mode), "Shadow Puppets" has few redeeming aspects, most of them skimpily concealed by tight ladies briefs and t-shirts. Aside from the aforementioned slumming Todd, this money-down-the-drain video fodder features James "Angel" Marsters proving why he'll never be a film star, Jolene "Star Trek: Enterprise" Blalock proving why she'll never be cast for anything beyond her good looks, Natasha "True Blood" Alam, ditto, a handful of others in search of a paycheck, and one of the hokiest and unconvincing CGI critters ever to disgrace a screen. Whoever greenlit this junk should be ashamed, and it cost $2m dollars? You've got to be kidding me. I'd rate it lower if not for the geek value of cameltoe hunting and the evidence of Tony Todd's fall from grace. You've been warned, and indiscriminate library purchasing agents should know better than to waste public monies on rack-filler like this.
I bought the DVD because I'm a fan of James Marsters.Yes, this movie must have cost every dime that it shows on screen. But also yes, I thought I knew within the first 20 minutes who the villain was, and I was pleasantly surprised to found that I can STILL be surprised.I write this comment merely to remind, or to alert, other viewers that James Marsters is a professional Shakespearian stage actor, and as I was watching him more than paying attention to the plot, I found myself enjoying this movie. Sure, I was yelling at the plot-holes within the first 5 minutes; but if you watch just 5 minutes of Marsters with the sound off, you'll see how superb an actor he is. Forget the trite lines that he was paid to say; watch, instead, his body language and his facial language. This is one great actor.Oh, but who, besides me, died laughing when Marsters had to deliver, straight-faced, the line, "Well, at least you look better in your underwear than I do"? Ouch! Cheers all, Fiona
I'm not a big fan of the Horror genre, but I did really like this movie. As a big sci-fi fan I was attracted to this from the main actors. It was a bit predictable and cliché at points there were actual surprises. Check the extras after the movie. James Marsters is a very talented actor that I have had the pleasure to meet at a con. Very nice and personable. Tony Todd is brilliant, has been all over the genre scene both horror and sci-fi. Joline Blalock is very talented as well as gorgeous. The others in the cast did a good enough job, esp the swimming girl. Highly recommended for fans of the actors or of the horror genre.
It is the actors and director voting 10 for themselves giving the movie a good rating to make it sell better. Notice that when a really bad film gets good reviews (around 7-10 in rating) it always have a lot of good comments about the "actors" in it. This movie is nothing but a ripoff, mastery of bad acting and a script who makes you wanna scream in agony. The parallels between Cube is so clear it is sad. Also, compare the plot summary with the film Unknown (2006) and you'll be surprised (or maybe not). If I was a part of this movie I would see the result as a complete failure and quit my job. Voting 10 for your own mistake is nothing but pure scam. These persons should be ashamed. I am, for their miserable sake.
