This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
One of my all time favorites.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Per chance, I stumbled over The Scribbler. The cinematography is very well done and the atmosphere etc. reminded me a little of The Fight Club, but after half an hour or so I was more and more detached and in the end even bored. What happened!? I guess for me the switch between the mental illness and thriller theme to the supernatural-whatever just didn't work. On top, the mid section of the movie felt overstretched to me and with too much filling material, it's like a record with a few really good songs but the rest is just fillers. In my view, the material of the story is for certain interesting and got potential but even if you got good and tasty ingredients sometimes if you put them together they just don't work out well together. Btw - someone remembers The Million Dollar Hotel (2000) with Gibson and Jovovich by Wim Wenders!? Well, you won't get superheroes there but you get also a building filled with weird characters and murder etc. Well, I will re-watch The Million Dollar Hotel - thx to The Scribbler!Anyway, the aficionado of the unusual and weird may dare a look.
A young woman (Katie Cassidy) is facing her destructive multiple personalities using an experimental new procedure known as "The Siamese Burn." This film is very 1990s, reminiscent of "Donnie Darko" or "Dark City". Unfortunately, it never quite reaches those levels. Despite a great cast and decent plot, and even some people saying this has "cult following" written all over it, it just becomes too difficult to follow, and does not offer nearly enough Michelle Trachtenberg. Katie Cassidy does great, but bring on the Trachtenberg.Good casting making Sasha Grey the "bunny", though... she is finding her transition to mainstream films awfully smooth.
We all know Michelle T can act and it shows as always in this film as well as in every film she does. The main person though that needs to take credit for this picture is Katie. On arrow her character is so Lois Laine ish and there is very little versatility there. Grant it still has many more seasons for the writers of that show to bring out more of Katie's massive potential. This movie demonstrates just how intriguing a character that is totally opposite from Laurel Lance can be brought out by an actress that people think is terrible on the arrow show. It is very much possible she could play Harley Quinn after watching this. The "DEATH" comic book character she was able to create along with Michelle T was brilliant. It had the movie "the crow" instances in there which I have not seen in decades since that movie. Let me be the one to say yes, if you enjoyed the crow you will like this.
Intelligent movies are a rare breed. Generally films about twisted minds disintegrate into horrible 'thriller/horror' clichés. It's refreshing to see a film that so purely encompasses a highly intelligent but damaged mind. Agreed that not everyone will like this film. It doesn't make them stupid, but the film will always be appreciated by those who can recognize how twisted a mind becomes when you see the world from a diametrically opposite view to 'normal'.I won't go into the details, but believe me, if you liked sucker punch then you will absolutely love this.Layers upon layers of characters, every scene, every background music resonates with literary genius! I am just sad that the movie ended, and that I might not see another one Luke this for a long time.
