So much average
Memorable, crazy movie
Don't listen to the negative reviews
The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
It is human nature to laugh at pain, its a survival mechanism; so, there's a lot to laugh at in "Smiley Face." Anna Faris does an outstanding job of making a self-destructive character likable and sympathetic. That's Faris' gift to movie-goers, she is extremely likable. And that saves "Smiley Face." The movie starts off suggesting a female version of "Harold and Kumar..." but as it progresses the story becomes extremely dark.Jane F. (Faris' character) has a serious marijuana problem and doesn't know it. She isn't so much in denial as she is naive. She will learn. And as her day spins downward, it is often hilarious but increasingly painful to watch the good-natured but badly broken Jane F. (I suspect the AA reference is deliberate) crash and burn. The supporting cast is...supportive. The characters are underdeveloped, but this is Jane F.'s story so this is not a major failing, all though Jane Lynch is completely wasted in her role as a casting director.I would suggest watching this movie sober. Jane F's view of the world while under the influence might be disturbingly familiar and evocative for viewers who are high but mockingly funny if you know what she's going through while not going through it yourself. And it is a pretty accurate picture of what many smokers look like to those who aren't with them on the trip.
Now this, fellow stoner users, is a great stoner movie. Anna Faris, better known as the innocent Cindy Campbell from the Scary Movies franchise, plays Jane, who gets real stoned and has lots of important stuff to do.The plot sounded nice from the beginning, but I wasn't expecting it to be so artistic. It's more of an adventure film rather than a comedy. It's something like... stoner adventure. Anyway, lots of funny moments here, great to watch when you yourself are stoned. Has an unexpected ending and oh, those situations... Haven't we all been there? Plus, good soundtrack. Watch it with your friends.
I love this movie for so many reasons. But there are also a lot of fault.#1- I love a good stoner movie. In addition, I love that its a GIRLS stoner movie! (I mean how many of those are there?!)#2- Anna Faris? Who knew? I always thought she was a really good actress but now I just have so much more respect for her as an actress. And she plays the role sooo unbelievably well! The negatives are pretty big unfortunately. The beginning 30-40 mins of this movie are perfection. Then for some reason it heads towards a downwards slope. In fact, it starts getting so bad that I totally lose interest & can't even finish the movie! When the beginning of a movie is so good, you kind of expect the middle and end to be equally as good but they lose me once they introduce this random Brevin character.I've watched the beginning of this movie dozens of times and always stop watching after the audition. But i'd love to find another movie like this one.
Anna Faris really fits in this kind of role: a crazy girl. Smiley Face has some funny moments that and tells a story about a girl (Jane) who loves to get stoned. She lives for the drug and her lack of compromising with life is enviable.John Krasinski's character is boring and shouldn't be in this movie. It was only useful for more jokes coming from Jane, which were really funny along with the escaping scenes. Also it deserves a decent rating because of its originality. Come on dudes, it's hard to find a similar movie to this one nowadays. Sadly Faris' facial expressions were used so many times in her previous films and this doesn't add much for her as an actress.
