The Dukes of Hazzard

Cousins, Bo and Luke Duke, with the help of their eye-catching cousin, Daisy and moonshine-running Uncle Jesse, try and save the family farm from being destroyed by Hazzard County's corrupt commissioner, Boss Hogg. Their efforts constantly find the 'Duke Boys' eluding authorities in 'The General Lee', their 1969 orange Dodge Charger that keeps them one step ahead of the dimwitted antics of the small southern town's Sheriff, Roscoe P. Coltrane.

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

"Wow."This is what every attendant in the theater sighed the second the credits began to roll at the end of The Dukes of Hazzard a little over ten years ago. In 2016 I am still surprised by the effect that this movie has had on audiences. The combination of blistering action sequences, sharp and expertly-timed comedy as well as energetic plot work make for a refined future classic and one hell of a ride. I will explain why the Dukes of Hazzard movie is (in my opinion) the best movie of 2005.RESPECT TO SOURCE MATERIAL: The Dukes of Hazzard movie is one of the very few TV-to-movie adaptations that do everything right. First off, all the elements you need are right there: you got Bo and Luke Duke (perfectly cast as real life thrill-billies Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville), Jessica Simpson looking like she's smuggling volleyballs as Daisy Duke and a 69 Dodge Charger that any mopar fan would need to change his shorts after viewing. That's all you need. Director Jay Chandreekerje is well aware that less is much, much more: this isn't Interstellar motherf*cker, we do not need three hours of backstory and character development to tell us what we could have guessed in thirty seconds. Chandjherhehiaer practically cuts the expository bullsh*t with a chainsaw by launching us into a chase scene within the first three minutes. You can't say this isn't a Dukes of Hazzard movie. By cutting to the chase (literally), you can't say this is a bad Dukes of Hazzard movie.ADAPTATION: Jay Chreakenasea's genius shines in how well he can make us think that we need an R-rated Dukes of Hazzard movie. The further he pushes the envelope, the better it gets. Throughout the movie the f*cks, shits and summbitches comprise every second word; Sheev almost kills a man; we see Simpson's rear end more than the Charger's. These all make for a more gritty, and real experience. The real "wow" moment for me--just like the others in the theatre-- was when Bo Duke said that he was going to "F*ck his car." This is not something TV Bo Duke would say, nor should it be. To this date, this is the only movie that has had the balls to openly reveal that the protagonist is a car f*cker. The reason why I gave this (nearly) perfect film a 9/10 is due to how little attention this angle was given. This was the most interesting development in the film and it was dropped faster that a police car in the film's final chase scene. The Dukes of Hazzard would be a 10/10 film for me if it actually showed a scene of Bo Duke f*cking a car. THE COMEDY: I was in tears every time Willie Nelson was on screen. After joke number 58 from the country star, I thought that home releases of this film should come packaged with a surgeon general's warning. The Dukes of Hazzard expertly plays on derogatory Southern stereotypes in a manner that is biting, yet tasteful. I couldn't hear most of the dialog between Bo Duke and the guy at the bar when I saw this at the theatre due to the audience howling when Bo was asked if he "shucked" his first cousin's "corn." Brilliant, brilliant humor.THE PLOT: I only saw 20 minutes of the movie but I caught the first when Johnny Knoxville tries to slap the meat-plow to a moonshine customers daughter. There is a chase scene after. Bo duke gets asked if he shucked her corn (not the same person). Burt Reynolds shows up and shucks someone's corn. Racing Star bobby Dallas has to beat Bo duke in a race for the farm. Bobby Dallas wins. There is a police chase. I can't spoil too much of the movie but it gets good later. I heard that there are boobys in the unrated version so I will definitely be giving this another watch when the wife goes to bingo tomorrow9/10 masterpiece.

There are a lot of movies that I hate, but none that I despise more than this one! This is, without a shadow of a doubt, "The worst movie I have ever seen in my life" and trust me, that is saying a lot! Before I explain why I hate this movie with the intensity of an F-5 Tornado, let me first explain what "The Dukes of Hazzard" was, and what it meant to me personally. "The Dukes of Hazzard" was a very popular, and beloved television show that ran from 1979 to 1985 on CBS. It was the type of television show that both children and adults could enjoy. Although it only ran for seven seasons, the series was a smashing success and immensely popular! It also sold a ton merchandise. From RC cars, to action figures, to pretty much anything you could think of, "The Dukes of Hazzard" remains to this very day, one of the most fondly remembered television shows of all time. Children all across the country, (and perhaps all across the globe.) grew up watching this show. (Myself very much included!) Sure, some could say that it wasn't "smartest" show on TV at the time, but it was never trying to be. It was just simply a good wholesome show, about a good-natured family helping themselves and other good folks out, and trying to right the wrongs that occurred in their community. "The Dukes of Hazzard" is a show that I love, and one that I still hold close to my heart. So when a film remake was announced, needless to say I had my doubts, and a sinking feeling that it would be another TV show, heartlessly butchered by a horrendous remake. In the end, it turned out that I would be right. I had no idea however, how bad it would turn out to be! In a lot of internet reviews, you often hear the phrase: "This film has taken two hours of my life that sadly, I will never get back." no other words can describe my displeasure better than that. So, what all was wrong with this film? Putting it simply: EVERYTHING! Let me explain why this movie fails on all fronts. #1 The Cast. Out of all the actors that they could've chosen for this film, they chose the absolute worst! I've never liked Seann William Scott, Willie Nelson, Jessica Simpson (as an actress or singer!) and Johnny Knoxville couldn't act if his life depended on it! #2 The Characters, or lack thereof! The people in this film are not characters! They don't grow, they don't change, and we never learn anything about them! #3 The Story. The story revolves around "The bogus Dukes" finding out about "bogus Boss Hogg's" plan to destroy "The bogus Hazzard" for coal mining. Which sounds eerily similar to the plot in the incredibly poor video game, "The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee." Anyway, they all find about the plan, and have to stop it. So there ya go, there's the plot in a nutshell, and the reasons why I despise the film. Before I end this however, let me go a little deeper into why this film was such a bitter disappointment for me. This movie, took everything that made the original show great, and poured it all down the drain. It breaks my heart, that they took a beloved and very well known television series and turned it into mindless trash. Bo and Luke Duke, who were once good natured, hard working couple of country boys, have been turned into immature womanizing jerks. Daisy, who was once a sweet kind, caring, and gentle southern belle, has been turned into a whore. Uncle Jesse, who was once a loving, honest, and moral father figure, has been turned into a pervert. They even have a scene in the film that says that the rebel flag on the roof of the General Lee is racist, and politically incorrect. I'm sorry, but people like that are Ignorant and wrong for thinking that way! (The flag is not racist and has never represented racism or white superiority) I have no idea what the writer and director was trying to accomplish, or who the film was made for, but I can tell you one thing: It wasn't the fan base of the show. Which begs the question, Why was this called "Dukes of Hazzard"? Thankfully, this movie was quickly forgotten after its release. I can only hope that Hollywood has given up on TV-to-movie adaptations. Because more often than not, they're not that profitable or memorable, and most of the time they're hated by both critics and fans. The TV show, "The Dukes of Hazzard" will always be remembered and loved by its fans, and nothing will ever change that.

This is one of the better comedies out there. Better than many of those cliché franchise, this is actually quite Original. It isn't just some body put a compost of weed smoking bears to make it funny, it actually has some real nice comedy, character development, and contrast. This movie isn't trying to be anything either. Yes it does play with stereotypes and things, but that's what makes it funny! And it ain't funny like stupid funny. I thought I'd turn it off but the action and suspense kept driving me to watch it till the end. The humour is actually intelligent, and has nothing to do with all those drug/alcohol driven humour you get in others. The way it is portrayed is also original, I haven't seen a movie like this in a while, in a narrative style, with a developed plot behind it. They pull it off.

Here's an opinion from someone who adores the TV show.Jessica Simpson isn't Daisy Duke (Horrible legs by the way, HORRIBLE!). Burt Reynolds isn't Boss Hogg; Reynolds looks like a stinking corpse, stinking as both drunk and musty. If it wasn't for his white outfit; he could have been unseen. He's deprived here of everything; presence, wit, capability of speak! Where was Danny DeVito for god's sake ?! Johnny Knoxville as Luke Duke and Seann William Scott as Bo Duke have nothing to do with the original characters unless their ages. They seem like dumb, sex maniac, and foul-mouthed kids which is faraway from the original 2 Dukes. Maybe this is the 2000s cinematic interpretation of them then! In this bothering manner, M.C. Gainey as Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane was mean, just mean; whether as a different interpretation, or a try to squeeze any comedy out of the comic series ! Junior Brown as The balladeer / narrator was palely written, with no memorable character or funny remarks. Lynda Carter as Pauline didn't do anything at all. I don't know what the need for her character was in the first place?! As long as we talk about the same TV show, I don't recall a character by the name, and of course the antics, of Derek "Sheev" Sheevington (played by Kevin Heffernan). Most probably it's an addition from this movie's director Jay Chandrasekhar inspired by his previous, absolutely UGLY, comedy (Super Troopers – 2001) where Kevin Heffernan played a very imbecile, very disgusting Vermont state trooper named Farva. So why not to remake it under the name of Sheev, and in the world of The Dukes of Hazzard, sorry; this less innocent, more filthy alternative world of The Dukes of Hazzard ?!!! So the casting sucked, rather shocked. And the changes sure stretched to damage big part of the show's authentic taste. Take for little instance the TV show's sweet elegance. It used to have the sexist gals at the time, even for the cameos, while here the 2 girlfriends of the 2 leads look away from that. For bigger instance; seeing Uncle Jesse, the head of wisdom in the TV show, smocking weed reminded me with the transformation of Huggy Bear, the street hustler / bar's owner of another 70s-80s TV show Starsky & Hutch, into florid pimp in the very show's cinematic remake, one year earlier. I was surprised (or not) when I knew that the 2 remakes were written by the same guy : John O'Brien. Clearly he wanted to take the known-by-heart characters into the next level. But why that next level had to be dirty ?! The original Dukes of Hazzard was a kids show, with teen jokes, and adult chases I suppose. Now we follow a teen everything, even Jessica Simpson looks like a 14 year old girl (who wears her mother's makeup heavily !). They thought that by adding endless, and needless, F words, pot smoking, sex jokes, plus Sheev character; the movie would work fine with the audiences of 2005, with naturally the demographic of today's teens, or – according to this movie's mindset – today's empty-headed teens. Nevertheless, they – the producers – forgot that the audiences of the from-1979-to-1985 TV show, who where kids back then, became parents by 2005, so most of them must have felt nauseated and turned off out of the casting, the changes, and the way things run this round. So aside from losing the show's moral code, the movie lost considerably the old glamorous touch, in many ways, which did annoy badly, especially without compensating it with as good or better new stuff. That's why all the original Dukes (Tom Wopat, John Schneider and Catherine Bach) declined the offer of having cameos in this movie according only to reading its script. I believe they found their show's name but not its spirit, with sauciness instead of suaveness. All that being said, the rest of the movie is a nice action. The script led the matter as unceasing light ride from start to finish, with interweaving cleverly the mission of saving the title characters' hometown, along with the big car race, and the final trial where all the facts around Boss's evilness expose. The action is very well made; hence it was entirely – if not shamefully – unfair from the Razzie's judges to nominate Jay Chandrasekhar for the worst director of the year. Without his eye for the good chases, and the heart-capturing jumps, this movie could have been far from watchable, and far from the TV show as well ! Willie Nelson as Uncle Jesse Duke was the only casting's shot to be aimed rightly. He was fit as the real Uncle Jesse, and provided fun on-screen time. I had a blast while hearing the show's beautiful theme song at the closing credits. Loyal before nostalgic that was. Yet, this movie shortly destroyed that feeling by showing the bloopers, like Burt Reynolds's car movies of the 1980s, where totally unfunny and gross stuff were being thrown at us like Seann William Scott complaining in laughter about Johnny Knoxville "He showed me his BALLS" !!! Actually that's the problem with this movie; not swerving away the harmless TV show inasmuch as making a layer of good, followed by a layer of ugly. Waylon Jennings, the TV show's balladeer, used to sing "Just two good ole boys..", well, I think they should have changed it also to be "Just two ribald teens.." ! Simply, this movie's teen glee wasn't amusing. Thank god that the movie's rest was.
